Android - Insufficient Storage Available

I used a generic 16gb SD Card from Amazon. It seems to work well but once in a blue moon I have to use 4-EXT Recovery console to do a file repair on the system. It works fine again after that. A small price to pay for having decent space and a phone that will last me another 2 years.
I refuse to get another phone on a 2 year contract as I use GiffGaff £10 a month and it suits me perfectly. When the time comes I will buy a phone outright.0 -
My phone,Huawei G300,automatically saves apps to the sd card if there's not enough room on the internal memory.
Maybe have a look at your settings if they are still at the default settings for memory usage0 -
If this is a common problem with Google phones, why is it that Windows and Apple phones don't have this issue?
Last time I had this problem, my phone was reporting 347MB of free space in the 2GB internal storage partition (where the apps are stored) and 6GB on the internal storage out of the remaining 14GB.
Memory (RAM) is only 1GB on my Note, but even that has never filled up because I kill apps when I've finished using them.
But I think some of you are missing the point; why should we have to install third party apps or delete other apps in order to upgrade the existing apps on our phones? (far too many apps there)
As a user (and former Linux geek) rooting my phone holds few terrors, but I shouldn't have to. If I had a Windows phone or an iPhone, I wouldn't have this problem. I've gone from having 80+ apps on my phone before I ran into this issue, to having 56 now. I dread updating the apps on my phone now because I know I'll run into this problem again and have to delete yet more apps.
Why should I have to do this just to update apps like Google Maps, GMail, Facebook etc? Many of you will see this as a non-issue, but you're probably like me and technically literate. I thought Google were technically literate, but obviously I was wrong.
We shouldn't have to delete apps unless the phone has run out of storage space, clearly, mine hadn't, yet I was still hitting this problem. Sounds like the Windows NT 30 day reboot (bigurllive.info/uptime) issue from the 90's.
We shouldn't have this sort of problem these days.

With regards to a HTC Desire. It was written with Android 2.1 OS and HTC put their Sense on top of Android.
The limitation of the HTC system was that it used up a hell of a lot of space on the internal memory. That was how it was written/coded. It has nothing to do with Android OS itself as it was HTC that made it that way. Rooting the phone gave you more space back on the internal memory and then apps like Apps2SD and the like came out allowing you to move application data to an external source. You could have a 1gb or a 16gb in there it won't make any difference to the size of the internal memory or the limitation of how it was written.
I can only speak for HTC Desire phone as that is all I have. Remember this is 3yr old technology so things move on quickly. I am sure the latest Android phones do not have an issue with space.0 -
The other issue is the size of the apps themselves. Facebook started out at about 8mb but now the install is 30mb+ as well as Maps etc.
The developers are forever increasing the size of their apps. Nothing can be done for old phones that can't cope with the amount of space required.0 -
I've got 1 of the first Ace's that came out (1 month to go Yippee!) & i found the way round it was to remove all the apps.......factory reset & then re-install the apps again.
I was told (whether it's true or not) that it's also because when you do an update, it doesn't overwrite the previous data...it just all stacks.....so after about 3 or 4 updtaes, the phone's memory is *full*.
Anyway, whether it's correct or not....doing that up there ^^ solved it
28 days & i get a new phoneAutism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine.0 -

On your last point, Andy, I would tend to agree, but the current handsets running the latest version of Android have more internal memory and that helps.
On your first point, if you had a Windows phone, you wouldn't need the memory as you would not have the choice of Apps and if you had an Iphone, you wouldn't have any money left to buy any !!! :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

(a) Windows phones and iPhones also run out of storage space - just do a Google search and you'll see loads of people complaining about it & asking how they can free up more room.
(b) You bought an Android phone - not an 'It just works' iPhone or a Windows phone. There are pros and cons associated with that. Even the original iPhone was available with 16GB flash memory; years later my HTC Desire came with 512MB, with only a fraction of that available for the user. However, I can increase and swap out my phone storage; an iPhone user is stuck with theirs.
Out of interest, which version of Android do you have on your Note? If you're having problems with the stock OS but have the ability to tinker with it then why not try something like CyanogenMod 10? Has to be better than being frustrated with your device. I struggled along with the stock HTC Sense version of 2.1 on my Desire for far too long - rooting and modding solved my only issues with what is otherwise still an excellent phone. If you think being down to 50+ apps is a pain try having to juggle about 5 apps - from that I currently have about 90 apps installed on it and it's given it a new lease of life.0 -

Great point here, its so true, Apple products just work. Yes they are expensive etc, but they work. No farting about with settings here and there to get it working. I had an iPad for a while until it got stolen, now looking for an android tablet, as cannot afford another iPad, and every andriod tablet has SOMETHING that doesnt work on it, and you need a work around for, or it will "be fixed in a future update" Now, I am a fan of all platforms, but I really do prefer Apple for the way their stuff just works....0 -

Not to turn it into another tedious fanboy war, and I've owned both, but Apple products 'just work' as long as it's something Apple 'just want you to be able to do with it'.
Ideally there'd be something as open as Android with the consistency and quality of the iOS platform. Google made a mistake allowing it to get so fragmented with all the different devices and leaving it to operators.0
