  • I think her main complaint is that she lives in Acton, which has been a horrendous dump for years. I dont know what she thought it used to be like, but strolling the arcades and passing the day with pleasant repartee hasn't been on the agenda there for a while.

In any case, there is a case to be made for countering the increasing ghettoisation of London. When I worked in London I commuted past schools where there was not a white face amongst the student body.

that is how you know it is a london school. i work in london and often see school trips out and about (near tower of london etc). if the school children are white you know it is a foreign school. if they are majority muslim you know they are from london.

The objection is because they are trying to push their religion and culture on us

If you went to live in Pakistan or wherever would you try to foist Christianity on them and insist that they wore Western clothes in your area. I think not.

If you're willing to accept that you can only look good by comparing yourself to someone who looks terrible than you can certainly be satisfied; personally I'd prefer we aim a little higher.

It IS about discrimination. Very little in that article had anything to do with Muslems trying to push their religion or culture. One strange example of a sign saying no alcohol on the streets near a restaurant was, I think, the only example. You can't judge a culture based on one sign, and I've seen plenty of signs about ball games, noise, loitering put outside of businesses/houses which have no right to control the public space; yet the blatant discrimination is evident from the fact that we don't all suggest those signs are a clear example of 'white British' forcing their values etc on others.

We see a black kid misbehaving and it supports prejudices of criminality in the black community. We hear of one Muslem making an inflammatory remark and it shows they are an intolerant people. But if we were stereotyped based on the behaviour of another white person we'd be deeply offended.

Fair enough, I accept your comments. However, Muslim countries do generally force women to cover up and alcohol is forbidden etc. It is often a repressive regime and they do seem to have intolerant leaders. If they are considering areas in London to be Muslim then are they trying to enforce their culture on these areas? Or are these just lies made up to discriminate against them? I don't know as I haven't been to these areas and can only go on what is reported in the media.

There may be a good reason why the sign was there.

Anyone who has been to an Indian restaurant on a Friday or Saturday evening/night knows that there are drunken idiots who use them and some of these don't behave.

How do you know they are Muslim do you ask the children?

Islam is a race not a religion.

Also talking to secondary school kids who are educated in Inner London they do have White classmates - they just happened to be Eastern European.

perhaps they ares sikhs, hindus or buddists. however, i am willing to bet a pound to a penny they are majority muslim. you're right, there are the odd pole or hungarian scattered withing the class.

But who put the sign there ?- If it's the local authority/police then fine, if not it has no business being there.

I hate these drunkern thugs as much as anybody else but the law is there to be enforced by the police.

You see notices asking people to leave quietly and respecting the neighbours, that's a polite request, not telling people what they can or can't do:mad:

There was a Polski Sklep in one of the grim towns down the road from us which had a sign in the window stating "No English".

I wonder if perhaps it meant they didnt speak English but apparently someone didnt want to give them the benefit of the doubt and eventually threw a brick through their window.
