  • What if the car is not in your name ?????

The employer has mis-managed this totally. Better approach would have been to explain the snag and invite suggestions on how to reduce street parking - like more on-site !!!! Even better rent some land and start a park and ride.
  • I don't think I would be able to stop laughing if the company I worked for said this to me. I'd still continue to park on the road, where my car is parked, unless it's on their land, is none of their business. Dictating something to people is never going to get agreement, consultation on the matter would have been a better approach.
  • If your working contracted hours such as 9-5 it shouold be non of the companies buisness where you park outside of work hours.

I remember reading somewhere in the forum a while back that someone parked outside someone's house on the main road and when they came back their car was clamped and a disabled spot was drawn around the car.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but......

OP do you have any updates regarding the situation?

It came back to mind after receiving a communication from my employer, re parking. It reads as follows,
To coincide with the reduction in parking spaces two employee car parks have been made available. (off site 10-15 mins walk away)
    -snip-

Employees should ONLY park in designated spaces.
Sufficient time should therefore be allowed prior to start of shift to enable parking.
Please DO NOT park in a residential area whilst working onsite as this fails to comply to a reasonable request from (Company Name) "We all have a responsibility to maintain the image of (Company Name) and also (Agency Name)

This is a large company with a very strong Union presence.

Having worked public sector contracts, I can only empathise with the OP.

I worked for a public sector in Cambridge. Not exactly known for great parking, but the fact that there was an on-site carpark was a godsend and really the only reason I took the contract - it wasn't a great payer.

Then some lefty enviro-mentalist decided to impose a policy whereby only permenant staff were allowed to use the car park! All other staff would be forced to "leave the car at home". As well as wasting public money making the surrounding public aware about how uber-green they were being, it did leave a dilemma.

There was NOWHERE to park outside of the office car park. Furthermore, there were no parking issues in the office car park; there was plenty space for one and all! The nearest road was £2.00 an hour on the meter for a maximum of four hours with no return within four hours. So, unless you fancied putting on fake plates and parking for £16.00 a day - not to mention it was frowned on to only work your set hours, they always expected more, it was off to the park and ride.

I tried it the first day and it took near on three hours to make it to work, lost an hours pay for being late, cost me £19.00 on the bus and eventually a cab because the poxy office was nowhere near a stop.

I brought this to the attention of my manager, but enviro-nutcase wouldn't have any of it.

On my way to hand in my immediate termination of contract, I bumped into several others who were all headed the same way to do exactly the same thing. How to halve your workforce with one insane do-gooder nut-lady who obviously has no real work to do!

Sounds a cheap way of cutting your staffing levels...
