Value for money Washing machine/dishwasher

Not all Miele's have the 10 year warranty as standard now that is the point I was making. I would not have without it personally so you have to factor in the extra cost of extended warranty on top of the price.
Siemens all of a sudden looks pretty good value if you get the 5 year warranty included at certain times of year.0 -
Father in law been round today,he's going to plumb the new washer in the porch for us, just need to get out there and buy them!. Any tips how to get discount by buying them both at 1 shop?0
-
My local independent actually searched online for best price and then matched that in shop when we bought a Siemens FF. Whether I was buying 1 2 or 3 appliances I wouldn't expect them to do any more than that to be honest!
Just search on internet and then maybe use someone like John Lewis to price match if you can't find a decent local independent0 -
Usually I'm of the mindset buy the best you can afford, and I'd also go for a cheaper model of a "good" brand rather than a top-of-the-range of a lesser brand. We have a Bosch dishwasher and tumble dryer which are so far doing very well; although my parents replaced their 20+ year old Bosch dishwasher with a new Bosch with which they've had quite a few problems with, so maybe things aren't what they used to be with Bosch?
That said, when we first moved in together and were very skint, we bought the cheapest washing machine we could get our hands on - a Hotpoint costing around £200. 10 years later, it hasn't missed a beat and is still washing well - despite us having absolutely no regard for loading it/maintenance washes etc.
I wouldn't buy a Miele at over £1000 - even if it does come with a 10 year guarentee, you could replace it with cheaper machines several times over in 10 years and still come out quids in....0 -

Hi
So you actually would rather replace many times over with no regard to the environment, spend more money on running costs, accept an inferior quality of wash, accept a machine that is far noisier and takes longer to do the job.
A Miele washing machine at £700 to £1000 will always be the cheapest machine to own over its life cycle.

Oh come on I know you sell them and I rate Miele but this is pushing the point!!
It won't always be at all. Out of warranty Miele can be horrendously expensive to fix and as mentioned earlier they don't all come with 10 year warranties0 -
If the 'several cheaper models' vs '1 expensive model' came in the same cost or the cheaper models were even slightly less I'd go for the expensive model as you need to factor in the inconvenience of time without a machine when each of the cheaper models breaks and has to be replaced.
BTW I bought a Miele with a 10 year warrantly last January for £830. It was a good price (a model that was being discontinued?) but you can definitely get them under £1000 if you shop around.0 -

You can recycle washing machines, try leaving one on your drive and see how long before a scrap dealer picks it up!!!
A 10 year old washing machine will be using 10 year old technology so a new, cheaper model could out perform it. It's a bit like a laptop. A once top of the range 10 year old laptop will be out performed by a standard new laptop.
Also if you have to have washing machine in your kitchen they can look dated and often you want to replace because you are sick of looking at an old machine!!
Anyway OP my experience.
26 years ago bought my first ever washing machine. It was a Hoover and worked solidly for 10 years - no complaints about cleaning of the clothes.
Replaced with a Bosch (mid price). Never happy with quality of wash. Clothes had residue on them, it was noisy, ugly etc. Gave up after just under 3 years.
Replaced with a Zanussi. Lots of lovely features on it, the best being the delayed start. A lovely, loyal servant until 3 years ago, not one breakdown until the end.
Replaced with Hotpoint. A lovely looking machine, high capacity drum and a decent wash. Doesn't have delayed start though and the quick wash isn't as quick as the booklet says!!
Only ever owned two dishwashers. First was a free Hygena about 18 years ago. Replaced 2 years ago with Hotpoint. Think my Hygena dishwasher cleaned better and I do find the Hotpoint slow.
