Barclaycard and 'Leisure Time' scam. Help please?

Hello.
I googled 'Leisure Time scam' and this website and forum came up.
I have receive in the last couple of days a glossy brochure from these people saying I had a mail order and also signed up to there membership - I didn't!
I did order something over the internet with Ideal World (no signature) and Ideal World is mentioned on this thread.
We don't actually use our Barclay cards and have today phoned and cancelled them, to stop this payment being taken by 'Leisure Time.'
I signed a form in the bank the other day (Barclays) to do with my savings account and now I'm wondering if that's how they got my signature?
I'm cross if Barclays has not got on top of this yet, as this thread goes back to 2008/9 !
Anyone else had this happen recently please?
(We haven't accepted any vouchers for petrol or anything else and we definitely haven't ordered any stripograms!!!)

Barclays don't go around selling photocopies of customer's signatures to mail order companies.

What exacly does the letter say you have signed up to, and what are the terms?

I suspect you've agreed to some monthly payment to some scheme somewhere along the line. If you have, cancelling your cards won't do anything. You need to cancel the contract. Look for the cancellation terms in the pack.

    Hello,
    thanks for replying.
I ordered something online at Ideal World and requested the 3 monthly payments option. (Not from my barcalycard - don't think I've ever used it and now we've cancelled both of them tonight.)
I signed something in my local barclays branch but only about my savings account.
I'm sure Barclays wouldn't sell my details either but wonder if they have some kind of security breach where crooks can access signatures illegally.
Anyone else had any incidences of this please?
There's a lot on google about it but I chose this link as I trust the moneysavingexpert Martin Lewis! :-D Don't ask me why!! :-D ;-)
    Thanks again.

    Having googled Leisure TIme myself...

It's run by Affinion. They run membership scheme where you pay x amount per month in return for some discount vouchers for various things. They work with a lot of credit card companies and normally recruit by phone. Althogh not great value, they're not a scam.

At some point, you've opted into their scheme - either through post (perhaps an insert with your statement) or on the phone.

Check for the cancellation details - you normally have a period in which to cancel (the first month or so is usually free).

    Ooh. Just read that again.
Lots of small print on the back of the letter - it says I have to phone a number to cancel something I definitely haven't signed up to.
It mentions 'your recent mail order' but is only as vague as that.
The telephone number is repeated for different reasons all over the covering letter for the brochure - and throughout the brochure.
I don't want to phone it as I wondered if it could be one of those expensive numbers that rip you off.
There is an address in Spain on the letter, in Marbella.
Someone on the older thread about this, said they phoned the number and were told they couldn't cancel and that someone shouted at them!
    :-(

Or someone has opted me in for the scheme!
I never do anything with the statements except to check there is no undue movement/payment on there.
We only kept the cards in case of emergency but don't use them as I say and now they're cancelled.
I just don't sign up for anything. I'm not a signer upper. I'm a chosen 'not signer upper'.
The only thing I signed for with Ideal World was when my order arrived safely and it was one of those handheld machine things.
    Getting worried now! :-O

You are getting signed up and signature confused.

What you have done is joined Leisure time via the Ideal world purchase.
This is very common and will have been something within the purchase pages about this.

Amazing as it seems Leisure time also has the same address as Shoppers Discount....

Cancelling your card is pointless as they will just get your new details via the systems.
    Call them up and cancel.

    Thanks.
You think the phone number will be bona fide, no rip off then?
We aren't getting new barclaycards - we've cancelled kerplunk - no more barclaycard.
In very tiny print, on the back, it says aswell as writing to them to cancel, in Spain, or phoning the (dodgy?) phone number you can fax them - but there's no fax number anywhere.
It also says in the event of a complaint to write to the Managing Director below.......there's nothing below!!!
    Thanks,

Well I have rang Shoppers discount before. Because customers did not want to ring them.... Despite it being a free phone number.

Yes they are a genuine company, that many people are happy dealing with to save them money.

People only think its a rip off, because they have not read the T/C. Often comes with a % discount of a future purchase.
