If they don't lend the money, they have no basis to deduct repayments!

I think we need to remember that very many people are on lowish pay and tight budgets where being £100 short on a paypacket risks not only leaving them without the money to get them through the month but also could put them in the position of having their credit trashed.

Absolutely - I wasn't meaning to be unsympathetic. However, my point stands that it could well be a mistake - keeping calm and politely asking for it to be sorted out is likely to be a better option than getting angry.

Best case scenario is that the company apologises and transfers the loan over ASAP. They could also, though, cancel the loan and refund the £100 slowly. Being polite may increase the odds of the company being cooperate!

It still can not be a mistake as all loan in any company would surely require you to sign something and a copy go to payroll. No payroll person would make a deduction without a signature.

  • Why on earth would a company DELIBERATELY offer a loan, not pay it but deduct a payment instalment?! Payroll depends on the right info being put in and clearly something has gone wrong and the actual loan amount has not been credited.

I would stay calm, approach someone in HR/payroll tomorrow and point out that my payslip shows a deduction for a loan amount but I haven't actually been paid the loan. They may have assumed that the loan was being paid by other means - eg company cheque. I'm sure it is something that will be sorted out immediately without any need for anger.

Of course they could. Payroll people can make mistakes, just like the rest of us!

I will keep calm but after having a meeting with HR and the divisional manager and also the GM where all this was agreed for this to happen for a large company I find quite bad

  • My colleague was once paid £250k wages by mistake. Things happen. It maybe that another payroll employee was suppose to issue the loan via cheque or separate BACS payment.

If not having the £100 puts you hardship then advise of this when you query that the loan not been paid yet.
    Bad luck breeds bad luck.

    Damn I'm doomed.

Eh? Did you sign a form saying you had been given the money and the terms as to how youd pay it back?
