Currently switching to Ebico OX28 area.

Got a really odd mix of prices for gas and electricity to start. Large over cost on electricity, and a minimum £10 charge for gas. Hopefully this will sort itself out when the switch completes. Sill cheaper than anyone else and an 18 month fix.

All comparisons relating to Eastern Region.

Looking back into the mists of time on MSE Forums I predicted that Ebico will go out of business. Well, they are apparently still going but perhaps only just. But when I look at the comparison sites, MSE Cheap Energy Club and uSwitch Ebico is completely off the comparison even when selecting more suppliers several times. On uSwitch it gets puzzling because Robin Hood Energy is on there twice but Ebico is nowhere to be seen.

The reason for Ebico's disappearance is unclear. What is clear is that Ebico is not living up to its past reputation. So when considering switching consider the hard facts in a comparison and don't be blinded by Ebico's reputation nor Ebico's claims!

Seamless change from Sse, 23 days and all seems ok.
  • Oh dear I'm still in a quandry about this.
At least I have the heads up about some issues, as I am looking at the 18 month contract with Ebico there should be a reprieve till the time when it comes to moving again.

I've applied to move to Ebico Night Owl today. Can't take another winter in a cold house being afraid to turn all the night storage heaters on because of the cost. Will let you know how it goes. The only thing I'm not sure of is whether the 60% fair usage limit applies to monthly or yearly usage.
Either way I'm prepared to give it a shot.
If it is a bad move the £30 penalty for leaving early pales into insignificance compared to my monthly bill.
  • Hi, Ive been an on/off user of Ebico since they used SSE as their agents. Glad to see to back of SSE as Ebico got into partnership with Robin Hood Energy. (SSE were bad losers!)

I am with Ebico for my Gas as I have a 1 bed place and dont need to pay standing charge over the Summer months.

There has been some issues with the new Agents Robin Hood Energy when I 1st joined last year as I put down to RHE expanding to quickly with other areas Councils' new companys (Angel, Bristol etc). I hope there new web interface ad login sites actually work as planned...
  • I've been with Ebico a long time. When they were under SSE they were fine.

Moved the electricity from Ebico to Octopus in Feb 2018 - they are cheaper and very efficient.

Meanwhile Ebico overcharged me for the final electricity bill and took 5 months to do so.

Today I received 3 gas bills all dated 7 September, sent in separate envelopes, and not one is correct. They continue to send estimated bills when, prompted by Octopus' reminder, I provide Ebico with accurate gas meter readings via their computerised meter reading service.

My usage is very low - about £36 per year.

The readings I provided were on 29 April, 24 May, 24 July, 4 September. The first 3 were applied only after I phoned up and told them I'd submitted readings. The 4 Sep reading hasn't yet been applied.

They are also very slow to credit my account with the payments I make through my bank.

I can't pay Ebico unless the bills are correct because the barcode is needed.

So my experience is not to touch them with a barge pole. I am considering paying the extra £25 per year that other suppliers would charge, just to get away from Ebico!

If SSE and Robin Hood are the agents then that must mean that Ebico is the supplier. It isn't. In fact it's Ebico which is the agent which negotiates with the supplier for cheaper prices for its customers. It probably goes without saying that Ebico isn't doing a very good job of that. It's also the supplier which produces the accounts and the bills.

SSE wasn't as bad as you claim. While in partnership with SSE Ebico built an enviable reputation for customer support but upon the change to Robin Hood customer service went to pot - read back in this very thread.
  • I just switched to Ebico this week. Switch was efficiently handled even away from the DIABOLICAL Solarplicity (although I expect my issues with Solarplicity to rumble on now that I had to get the Ombudsman involved due to their ineptitude). Hoping for good things from Ebico; quick to email and phone. Looking good so far.
