  • So, 14 weeks after leaving Scottish Power I finally received a partial refund of the outstanding credit on my account at the time I closed it. No letter to apologise or explain the refund - just a deposit into my bank. BUT they only paid me £100 of the £300 they owe me. Looks like I'll need to wait another 6 weeks for them to recalculate the bill again - then maybe I'll get a bit more of my money back. Who knows: in a year from now I might finally get the full amount back!!

I cannot emphasize this point enough: Avoid Scottish Power at all costs. Their billing and customer service is TERRIBLE. I will NEVER use them again - even if they're cheapest. Just not worth the hours of grief trying to get a correct bill & refund.
  • When I leave SP, if I am in credit (and I aim not to be) and I don't get the money after a reasonable effort, I will go to small claims. This company is a complete disgrace and should be banned from accepting new business.

How do Scottish Power get away with ignoring the Ombudsman Service?

I received a letter from the Energy Ombudsman in relation to my complaint against Scottish Power to say that they had agreed to close my account down, provide a written apology and pay a goodwill payment of £30 to cover my many hours on the phone to them.

They should have done this within 28 days.

I have heard nothing from them at all.

Looks like others are in the same position...

I was £293 in credit and was also paid a partial refund and it took many E-mails and several weeks to get the £180 owed to me. I thought it was bad enough that the whole process from initiating the changeover to receiving the final refund was about 14 weeks, so keep pushing to get what is owed to you.

Hi, I have decided today to leave Scottish Power after selling a house and numerous phone calls, one call I waited 41 minutes and was then cut off, 3 phone calls to change an email address on my account, Ive decided to move to Sainsburys Energy lets see if they can do any better.

i cannot express enough how bad the customer service department are at Scottish Power
I gave had an ongoing battle with them regarding monthly direct debit payments since may 2014 which is currently with the ombudsman
The customer service operatives show no interest in resolving problems you will consistently wait between 30 and 45 mins for calls to be answered and a call back although promised is rarely returned
My advise is not to use this energy supplier
  • Trying to get through to Scottish Power on their Freephone number is a living nightmare. Have currently been in their queue for 47 mins and counting. Last night it took over 45mins to get through. They offer a callback service but the earliest callbacks are now next week!!

Am going to hold on as at least it's not costing me any money and I can do other things like write this review about how useless they are!

They can't answer the phone but can at least respond to my tweets about problems getting through to them.

Always used to be fine getting through to them but this week is just a joke.

All I want to do is close my late mother's account now we're about to complete on the sale of her house this week.

Finally got through after 50 minutes waiting to be told I need to call them back on the day the house sale goes through.

Hopefully that will be the last time I'll have to deal with them.
  • Where to start? They are amongst the worst energy suppliers I have EVER dealt with. Switched from them in April and have had nothing but problems since. I must have called them 2-3 dozen times, patiently explaining the problem that they had estimated my final readings and gave them the correct readings.Guess what? - Every time the monkey on the phone was useless, couldn't understand the problem and after explaining the situation once again, they all promised to help and sort it out but never did!
Finally, I managed to get NPower(my new supplier) to send the correct readings over and I got a final electric bill. Still waiting for the final gas bill!! Don't use!!
  • For a long time now we have been SP customers. The pricing was OK. Two years ago we took out fixed deal which included HomeComfort policy. We recently tried to claim against this for a problem only to be told the policy is voided. They were using any excuse, none of it valid.
To cut a very long saga short - we are now claiming damages on the advice of Trading Standards. Look around the web (Google - 'problems with Scottish Power') and you will see they are 2nd highest in terms of complaints. When our problem is resolved we are leaving them!

I Googled "Scottish Power is shlt" as I was mulling over registering it as a domain name. Up comes Trustpilot: https://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/www.scottishpower.com.

If any other company had reviews like this it would close down.

  • SP worked well for me until this year.
Since Feb i have submitted 7 meter reads yet only got 1 online bill - after 4 email requests.
My deal ended on 31st Oct and I applied for a new one at their suggestion on 10th Oct but have heard nothing since.
I currently have a credit balance of almost £700 of which I have asked for a refund - no reply yet!
All web mails and e mails get a standard reply of 'we will contact you within 5/10/28 **(delete as applicable) days' - but they never do.
I gave 1 weeks notice that if I did not receive a reply I would change supplier "we will answer within 5 working days" - they havent and so I have!
