    oops!

yeah anyway, we paid the bill and requested a credit meter. we were refused at first, i can see why, it's a nice little earner for them! eventually they said they would remove meter for £150.

I rang British Gas and we switched over to them, ppm was removed free of charge and replaced with credit meter. Our monthly dd was £35 rather than n power£60.

In summary, n power are a terrible company with the most dire customer service ever!

I requested the switch over to Npower on November 7th. Still waiting for my Gas to be switched, it has been more than four months! Complained 3 times, nothing has been done, even Executive Complaints team is so useless, waiting for 8 weeks since the complaint to pass, then will go to the Energy Ombudsman. Npower was fine for mishandling customer complaints a few years back, I guess they have too much money and want to pay more charges.

I would not recommend Npower to anyone. I will leave them as soon as my contract is up.

I recently switched my gas to npower.

They've provided my previous supplier with a completely wrong meter reading, which they said wasn't an estimate even though it was. The result was that yesterday I got a final bill for roughly double what it should have been, scaring the hell out of me. Seems their estimations are way out.

All sorted out without too much fuss though, which makes them better than British Gas, in my book
    Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
    House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY

I have just logged on to my npower account to gave a meter reading. It says they are moving all customers onto a new billing system and they cannot take meter readings until 17 April.
New billing system but incorrect bills I expect.
  • One problem with the Energy Club (someone please take note!) is that it always does a comparison for dual fuel, which can be misleading. Only when I realised that the electricity was cheaper but the gas was dearer did I re-do the comparison. I then swapped to Npower (from Ebico). Now, I realise that the electricity is dearer anyway (before the next rise, by the way). Only by staying with them for a full twelve months would I theoretically get a kickback making it slightly cheaper. But then, I might as well have signed up for exit fees - which I specifically did not want to do, as I want the Energy Club to work for me through the year.

Now, I will not trust the comparison. I will go to the energy site's own websites and try to calculate the real cost before I switch. This clearly is not the intention of MSE but it clearly doesn't work. It should clearly state that any saving would mean staying with the new firm for 12 months.

I registered with Npower last December and wish I hadn't. Despite my property being unoccupied for 3 months and my giving them an unchanged meter reading they ignored this and went with an estimated bill, thus helping themselves to my bank account to the tune of £50 by direct debit. As far as I'm concerned that's tantamount to theft.

I've asked them to reimburse me but so far to no avail. I've stopped future direct debits and applied for another energy supplier to take over. I've given Npower 4 weeks to repay me before I start legal proceedings with them.

    This is my previous story/post:

My account hasn't been properly set up. I'm still getting bills for the old tenants account, but not had any correspondence for myself.

I've called a couple of times & they reckon it's 'all going through okay' but is taking longer as they've 'got a backlog'...I first gave them all the details in September!!

My DD is set up, but they've yet to actually take any money. They say I can make a payment over the phone, but I'm a bit wary about throwing money at them without any paperwork.

Following this I emailed the forum complaints & got a response to say they were struggling to set up my DD (even though I can see it on my list of DDs online) & would work on it, that it'd be fixed within 28 days...That was 28 days ago!

No correspondence except for a letter telling me the prices are changing. That's the only time I actually hear from them!

God only knows how much my bill is going to be when (IF) I eventually get it! I wish I could just ask another company to take over & backdate it to when I moved in, but I'm worried that will just cause even more hassle :(
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...
  • After several months delay by NPower my account was set up last year on GoFix11 although by the time the switch was made GoFix 12 was in force, but I argued my case and got GoFix11. I agreed to pay £80 a month which was what I was using with my previous Storage Heaters. At the time I changed supplier I also got new heating installed (electric Haverland Heaters) and I also installed double glazing. I have been running 3 heaters for most of the year and occasionally a bathroom heater for about 2-3 hours a day maximum. After many complaints I have finally got my bill for the year. I fully expected to be in credit due to my energy saving efforts but I am shocked as I am £451 in debt and my new payment will be £245 per month for the next year. I am retired, cooking for one, and cannot believe what I am expected to pay which is much more than I can afford and I cannot understand how I can have used 15682kWh when I don't leave anything on standby, use energy saving light bulbs, etc.

Are you reading your own meters?
