Ryan Air (and others) and tennis rackets

They'll have to be taken as hold baggage, which I think varies from £30 to £40 per bag.0

Hi Lutongirl- I don;t know whether to thank you or turn a blind eye to your tip above - " Tennis racquets are not allowed in hand luggage under the Department for Transport rules. Have a look here ...."
According to your link- hiking poles are al;so banned- which is odd, because I bought a pair of Leki poles specifically because they were short enough when collapsed to fit- just- diagonally in my Ryanair-sized hand luggage. Never been challenged in about four or five trips with them! Lucky...?
So returning to the original post- you leave the OP'er with the dillemma of whether to pay steep hold luggage charges, or cram em in their one piece of hand luggage 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, and hoping they don't get rejected at the gate with an even steeper charge for the bag being bounced into the hold0 -
No they're NOT allowed:

My son needs to take his rackets as he is going to a tennis academy and buying equivalent rackets there would cost approx £300.
The above link is about rackets being taken on as hand luggage so i assume packing them in checkin luggage is going to be ok.
Its all a bit of a pain this as there must be loads of players travelling to Barcelona to the tennis schools their so this info should be a bit more readily available. I have bben told by a coach at the academy that his son has travelled on easyjet to Barcelona with his rackets in his rucksack as hand luggage but I just don't wantr to take the chance.:(Starting MB- looking for Raf offers.
