Signature OK For TWO YEARS - Then Removed When I Add Details Of MSE Savers Club?

So crystal clear in fact that it took you TWO YEARS to report me?
Having a website and listing it my profile is not against MSE rules. Selling duplicates of books I enjoy and collect is not a crime. Many book lovers sell books.
If I was genuinely trying trying to buy and sell on MSE, don't you think I would have found a way to mention that in previous posts on this thread? I DIDN'T. I also sell on eBay. And Amazon. I didn't mention that either. It is YOU who were so determined to dig up some dirt on me that you have dragged this into the public domain. I don't deny I sell books by the above mentioned authors, but I do not and never have solicited sales on MSE. I am only mentioning it NOW because YOU were so determined to show everyone what a clever little investigator you are.
Whilst you are about it, why don't you spend some of your valuable free time trawling through all my old posts looking for further "evidence" of this frenetic buying and selling activity on MSE?
Did I anywhere in that signature mention the words website, ask people to contact me or mention the word "buy" or "sell"? Is it a given that everyone who saw that signature automatically felt the compulsion to check out my profile find my website link and click through to it?
What I said at the beginning still stands. If I broke a rule, I accept that. But it wasn't intentional. And I still fail to see, if this "clear intention to solicit sales" was so very evident, that not ONE PERSON ever mentioned it in 24 months. It's not as if I haven't been posting. Dozens of people must have seen that signature over time. Yet not one single Board Guide, Moderator or Member has ever said a word. Nothing. Nada. I can only assume that either you all need to visit Specsavers, or MSE rules are variously and inconsistently enforced.
without context it looks the same to me
BTW,that was quite a torrid post
I think you need to step back a bit0 -
I did not report your signature. I had never noticed it before you posted this thread. I really can't be bothered to look through you past posts either. Looking up your sig in the Google cache was a trivially easy/quick thing to do, and I was really looking first to see what your running total was.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

If by "Torrid" you mean full of strong emotion, then yes I am very passionate about books. And I hate seeing book lovers being exploited.
Let's take Elinor Brent-Dyer. This woman has been dead since 1969. No-one has heard of her. J.K Rowling she ain't. But her books still sell by the bucketload. You used to be able to pick up books by her in charity shops for about 50p. Then the people who run charity shops woke up to the fact that she was "collectable" and started checking her out on eBay. Some of her titles were only ever published once and are very hard to find. They command high prices and rightly so. But these charity shop people started shoving £10 price tags on 50p books and now kids can't afford them.
This sort of greed makes me passionately angry. And I make no apology for that.0 -

How much are her books selling for on the website in your profile?
By answering your question I will in effect be advertising for sale which I am a bit uncomfortable with. So I will try to answer you but be very careful what I say.
First of all I am the not the only collector website selling books. Most of the "chalet school" titles written by Elinor Brent-Dyer are available from lots of different websites and new titles are also available direct from two publishers, one based in Bath, the other in London. You can look up who they are without too much difficulty.
The "charity shop" books which I am talking about are USED abridged Armada paperbacks published between 1960s and 1990s (abridged means cut, and sometimes to keep within the reduced page paperback format whole chapters have been cut out). These should sell for between 50p and £3 depending on title. A very few rare titles are worth more, but I would imagine these hardly ever end up in charity shops. eBay should confirm this. These are mainly aimed at students and younger readers. Many charity shops price significantly higher than this. I have seen a £10 price tag on a tatty abridged paperback where the unabridged collectors edition is available new for just a couple of pounds more.
The books I and many others sell and exchange are NEW collectors editions aimed at adult collectors and include original uncut text from the first edition, publishing history, original illustrations and unpublished material. They have very short print runs. RRP on the website of publisher #1 who publishes the new collectors edition books is £13. RRP on the website of publisher #2 who publishes the new collectors edition books (different titles) is £14.99. Amazon charges the same. Most dealers and hobby sellers sell these titles for around the same price. There may be some variation depending on how long ago they were published and how many are still available on the open market. Some titles are available in e-reader (Kindle) format and these are cheaper.
The prices of the new editions are significanty lower than the original hardbacks, which with a dustwrapper can sell for £60, £80, £100 or more depending on title and are only really for serious collectors with very deep pockets. Sometimes new collectors desperate to complete collections pay these prices, then are gutted when they realise they could have got the same title for £12 or £13 brand new.
Different collectors prefer different types of books. Some only collect hardbacks. Some only collect hardbacks with dustwrappers. Some are happy with the Armada paperbacks despite the cuts and the fact that some titles are missing. Some started out with the Armada paperbacks then graduated to the collector editions as finances improved.
Just to confuse matters, Elinor Brent-Dyer also wrote non Chalet School titles and these are also collectable. Several modern authors have also written new "Chalet School" titles in the style of Elinor Brent-Dyer.
I hope that answers you question?0 -
