Absolutely MAD because the MSE Forum Team removed my signature and all the details of how much I had saved in the 20p Savers Club IN A SEALED POT :mad:

My signature read "20p Savers Club #103 £xxx" then underneath had a list of my favourite authors which was just a list of names.

Before I joined the Club I had had the same signature UNCHANGED for over two years. How come it was ok to have a list of authors and then the minute I add something useful like how much I have saved...they remove it?

I ASSURE anyone reading this that the ONLY change I made was too add the words "20p Savers Club #103 £xxx. I didn't make any other changes. I am all for signature rules, but if my signature didn't break any rules for two years, how come suddenly it does now? How come my signature wasn't removed two years ago??

Short of breaking open the pot I have NO IDEA how much I have saved now - that signature was my only record.:mad:

Went to look for an email address to complain and was directed to this forum.

is there some way you can check google cache for an old page with it on?
  • Tried checking Google cache but although I went to an old thread about January sales, it still had my new signature on it. Wondered if my being logged in might have had anything to do with it? Not sure how "old" the cached version was.

Not sure exactly when the signature was removed as wasn't online at all yesterday - we went to the zoo. I sent a PM to someone on MSE from Starbucks on Saturday and I'm sure it was ok then.

I take the point about the signature possibly being too long but I thought it told you that when you tried to save it? Also I've been a member of the MSE 20p Savings Club for about two weeks now. Surely if the signature was too long it would not have continued to display for two weeks?

If the Mods wanted to do something about my signature could they not have left the savings part intact at least? I can't be the only person who uses the signature as a record.

    **sigh**

On 17th Jan, you had £5.20.

Not sure I would be "mad" when, even if you'd started from zero you wouldn't have been that far out!
  • Hi fallen121

It sounds as though your signature's only recently been reported as our team just takes steps when something's reported by another forum user.

We've added your Savers Club note back in but you had some other text in there that looked like you were trying to buy or sell on the forum.
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

    THANK YOU MIDUCK!!!

No, £5.20 isn't the end of the world if I had to start again. But it took a long time to get that far and it's a BIG sealed pot...!

I had lists of author names. Long dead authors whose names are in the public domain. Most people don't even know who they are.

There were no links to any websites or any suggestion that I wanted to buy or sell.

Because I am a generally law abiding person I will amend my signature. But I am fairly active on the forums - I cannot BELIEVE it took two years for someone to decide that I was trying to buy or sell something....!

You had this in your signature (from Google cache)

To me that is a clear reference to the website you list in your profile, which is indeed selling those.

So crystal clear in fact that it took you TWO YEARS to report me?

Having a website and listing it my profile is not against MSE rules. Selling duplicates of books I enjoy and collect is not a crime. Many book lovers sell books.

If I was genuinely trying trying to buy and sell on MSE, don't you think I would have found a way to mention that in previous posts on this thread? I DIDN'T. I also sell on eBay. And Amazon. I didn't mention that either. It is YOU who were so determined to dig up some dirt on me that you have dragged this into the public domain. I don't deny I sell books by the above mentioned authors, but I do not and never have solicited sales on MSE. I am only mentioning it NOW because YOU were so determined to show everyone what a clever little investigator you are.

Whilst you are about it, why don't you spend some of your valuable free time trawling through all my old posts looking for further "evidence" of this frenetic buying and selling activity on MSE?

Many people who read these books have NO IDEA what a world wide phenomenon they are. Grown women are actually embarrassed to be seen reading them. They don't discuss it and have no idea that societies of like minded people exist and that there is NO NEED to pay £60 or £80 for out of print titles on eBay when many private publishing houses are now republishing them for less than a tenner. Raising awareness that hard to find book titles are still being published cheaply is hardly soliciting sales, especially when I can name a least a dozen other websites people can go and buy them on. But first they need to know they exist.

Did I anywhere in that signature mention the words website, ask people to contact me or mention the word "buy" or "sell"? Is it a given that everyone who saw that signature automatically felt the compulsion to check out my profile, find my website link and click through to it? Most people don't have time for that kind of thing.

What I said at the beginning still stands. If I broke a rule, I accept that. But it wasn't intentional. And I still fail to see, if this "clear intention to solicit sales" was so very evident, that not ONE PERSON ever mentioned it in 24 months. It's not as if I haven't been posting. Dozens of people must have seen that signature over time. Yet not one single Board Guide, Moderator or member has ever said a word until today. Nothing. Nada. I can only assume that either you all need to visit Specsavers, or MSE rules are variously and inconsistently enforced.
