If he can't afford a car - that's his problem.
Not really a problem for him - he has an arrangement with his employer.
If op can't afford a house with a larger piece of land in a more exclusive area - that's his problem. So long as the guys not blocking access to the highway of course, which he doesn't appear to be doing. As I said its a privilege not a right to be able to use it for commuting - most people have to pay to get themselves to work.0 -
Why should he have to if a vehicle has been provided for him? You may be fortunate enough to be able to, but not everybody is.
See above. (post #79)PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Most employers would soon remove that privilege (Arrangement) if they started getting complaints about it.
A lot of employers would probably drive around and check whether there was an issue - mine wouldn't, they would just tell the driver to leave the van in the yard each day.0 -
What I find amazing is the number of people who only think of themselves, if everybody was reasonable, these issues wouldn't even arise.
Phrases like.... I have a right
I'm not breaking any laws
There's nothing to say I can't
Just think - how will it affect somebody else, personally I would't park opposite anybodies drive if it meant they couldn't just drive out.0 -
Bit of a bold statement... do you know that for sure? And as for "Why should he spend money on buses or a cheap runaround", well that's what most people have to do. As I've said before, I doubt that the truck would be insured for personal use. When insuring a car, one of the normal questions relates to commuting to/from work and business use. I'm sure that a commercial policy will work the other way round.
I can look out of my front window and see 3. 1 that belongs to the gardening business across the road, 1 that belongs to the security firm across the road and 1 that is a minibus that belongs to the guy that drives for a Taxi firm 4 doors down. Thats not including another 2 on my road run by the local scrap man. My street is probably half a mile long. Thats 5 in half a mile. Not a stretch then to imagine how many similar vehicles are parked up in residential streets overnight.0 -

Hmm. Well I'm sure there are more BUT dosn't mean that in all cases the usage is legit and they aren't causing complaints.
I think I will leave it now... i've given the OP my advice and I hope he/she comes back to update us.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
My tuppence worth says the OP and his wife should learn to drive, if they need ten shunts to get off their drive then maybe the drive needs widening aswell. I drive a van and there's an idiot near me who moans about me parking near his house even though it happens maybe once or twice a month when I can't get on my own drive, total nimby. And by the way there are 4 tool hire shops near me that I can think of and only 1 has a yard where a ven can be parked but even they let a worker take it home at night.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Problem is that non of us know how wide (or narrow) the road in question is. We only have the OP's word and without us actually seeing the road, I'm not sure that we can pass judgement as definitively as you put it.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. I had a similar prob with the business opposite. The workers kept parking opposite my drive even while having spaces outside the front door! I had a similar thread and my driving got slated.
At the end of the day surely its only considerate to not put out/annoy the neighbours? I initially complained to the business but wasnt getting anywhere so complained to the Head Office of the company by email and the Manager came over and apologised and the situation is much improved. Good luck OP.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0
