I feel sorry for this guy... he's probably finished a hard days graft and wants to get home to his family. But because of the fact he is using a larger than average vehicle he has to park further away from his home than he would like and walk the rest of the way home. Then to make matters worse he gets hassled from others for parking where he is - yet if he moves he is simply going from annoying you to annoying somebody else, so there is really never a win for him.

This just seems like another 'not on my back door' scenarios. Such as 'yes we want environmentally friendly energy sources, but don't install wind turbines on our coasts or near my house'.

Yeah... poor man. Not as if he could go out and buy himself a car to get to and from work like the rest of us that may fit on his own drive is it?

Parking is the bain of most modern housing developments, due to the issues most modern developments do have a restriction on parking commercial vehicles on the road HOWEVER these are normally worded that the householder cannot park a commercial vehicle, as this guy lives in another street it wouldn't apply!

If it really is causing that much of an issue the only recourse really is to complain to the employer - if the company I work for received such a complaint, they certainly would put a stop to it - being able to use a company van for commuting to and from work is a privilege, not a right - the driver needs to remember that - this was taxable until 2006.

Who's to say he can though? Maybe he can't afford a car? Maybe there are no safe facilities to store the vans at work.

Oh come on! We are talking HSS here... they will have parking facilities for the truck. As Cknocker has just stated, using the works truck/van to commute to and from work is surely a perk, not a right.

I find it hard to believe that someone in full time employment cannot afford a cheap runabout. Or if that is the case, don't they have public transport in that area?

If he can't afford a car - that's his problem. As I said its a privilege not a right to be able to use it for commuting - most people have to pay to get themselves to work.
If the company has nowhere to park a van - that's their problem - As a hire company the scenario is highly unlikely.

But he's been given a van, and really not an especially big van in the scheme of things. Why should he spend money on buses or a cheap runaround when he can park it legally just around the corner? Now if this was a huge truck being parked illegally every night thats something else, but its an average sized Merc Sprinter of which their are thousands parked on residential streets most nights without complaint.

Bit of a bold statement... do you know that for sure? And as for "Why should he spend money on buses or a cheap runaround", well that's what most people have to do. As I've said before, I doubt that the truck would be insured for personal use. When insuring a car, one of the normal questions relates to commuting to/from work and business use. I'm sure that a commercial policy will work the other way round.

Why should he have to if a vehicle has been provided for him? You may be fortunate enough to be able to, but not everybody is.

that may or may not be the case but it does depend on the width of the road and if the rd in question is narrow and parking it is causing an obstruction, then there is a problem. It really is that simple.

I would get in touch with the MD of the hire company
