Hi all hope you can help, I have a similar problem to New Mum.
A now ex friend decided to mess with my pc some time ago and formatted my hard drive, removed my legitimate version of xp home and installed a hokey edition of xp professional. I am now getting these pop ups and have lost windows media player because I need to validate.
My question is, can I go back to xp home and my legitimate key code?
I am assuming that I have windows on one of my recovery discs.0 -
even if you don't have your disc, aslong as you have your genuine product key number, your local PC shop will be able to reinstall XP home but it WILL mean formatting your PC again.
Why the f**k anyone would put a hokey version of XP Pro over the top of a genuine Xp home is beyond me, as the differences an average non networked PC would see virtually no difference!
I wonder about some folks logic!
Hope you get it sorted and do a backup of all your important data first:: No Unauthorised Links in Signatures please - FM ::0 -
Don't see why not, as long as you have the key code.
Don't forget to 'back up' the info that you wish to retain.0 -

Huge thanks to you both, I will go and brave my pc shop man sucking his teeth at me and shaking his head ( cringe)!0

Why not pay an extra tenner for vista home premium? Anyway, MS dont go to houses arresting people, they have better things to do. All that you're missing out on is the updates; and is that really such a bad thing?Chippy_Minton wrote: »XP Home for about £45 - http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/114048
