There is lots to do in Sri Lanka.

In fact if you're travelling around rather than staying in a resort finding an alternative to 'Rice & Curry' for dinner (again) can fill up many hours.

Why do so many people go to a TA book a holiday and THEN do their research when they get home.

Common sense tells you it should be the other way round (or not use a TA at all).

Exactly. I really don't understand why people still use TAs these days. Within seconds, I can find information and reviews on every hotel, destination and tourist attraction in the world. Why would I need to talk to someone in a High Street shop?

I think Ill go to Thailand instead then
    Happy :)
  • 'Rice & Curry' being a specific, usually quite dry dish rather than say the wonderful and varied food of India or other Asian countries.

The word "sells" is the relevant one here. A TA's job is to sell you a holiday, not to help you out of the goodness of their heart.

If you ordered a chicken tikka from a curry house and a vindaloo turns up that's ok, it's his job to sell you a curry, he's not going to get it right out of the goodness of his heart!

Whereabouts on the west coast of Sri Lanka are you going? i.e. which resort?

I think I may be more worried about rainfall than lack of snorkelling.

Who is the Tour Operator? I.E Hayes and Jarvis, Thomson, etc...? I know you booked with a travel agency but it really probably depends on what the operator says. Sometimes it will be Ok and sometimes not. You will really need to check with them to be sure if it can be changed or not.

Althams travel agents. Will call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Althams aren't the tour operator, they are the travel agent.
Do you know which tour operator you have booked with?
I really wouldn't ring them with this type of problem.
I would go in and have a face-to-face discussion, preferably with the same person who sold you the holiday.

Worse case scanario I still travel to a amazing place I just don't snorkel.

My advice (as above) is to check out the weather before sticking with Sri Lanka. There are different wet and dry seasons depending where and when on the island you go.
It might be worth doing a bit of research now, finding out where for a similar price has good snorkeling and presenting that when you go in. Don't rely on the travel agents knowing anything.

    I agree with this.
  • Club Palm Bay marawila, looking on trip advisor many people say the weather there will be ok at the begging of August. Murcury direct I think is the tour operator, as much as I love my snorkelling not been able to will open my eyes to other things on offer there.

Oh well, if you've done your research on the weather and think early August is OK, then I'm sure you'll be fine.

Just curious why you didn't research good places to snorkel while you were checking the weather out....
  • I didn't know where to go weather wise as never traveled that far that's why I went to the travel agents and it was there I first lernt about the weather been ok at that time of year (was when I found out about no snorkelling I checked the weather again as snorkelling and sun were the main things I wanted) its a lesson learnt for next time.
