Scammed on eBay - PayPal will take my money

maybe in this case but as a seller YOU WILL NEVER WIN A CREDIT CARD CHARGEBACK WITH PAYPAL,
in my eyes paypal are a necessary evil for ebay but bar that they should never be used,
New someone who sold a $5400 domain via paypal (stupid i know) guy charged back, and yeah the chap, (only a young lad) was gutted.
As long as you follow the rules for seller protection a bank chargeback is easily defended with proof of postage, you don't even need proof of delivery.
It really does help to know the rules so that any seller faced with a claim knows what proof they need to upload and when to phone PayPal to remind them of the rules.
Not understanding the rules makes it more likely that you will get ripped off as you will not invoke the protection to which you are entitled.
As per all posts where proof of posting certificates are mentioned, keep them for 180 days in case of a bank chargeback.
I think in my entire history on eBay I've had three bank charge backs , all oddly enough for very small amounts and I've won all three.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm struggling to sympathise. Surely one would check the full terms out before posting something worth hundreds?
The police may be your only recourse to get your money back in this case.
Was just after advice and thought it would be a good warning to others, so not particularly seeking sympathy.
Like I said... hindsight. I've sold things in the past without any problems, and sometimes get stuff sent to work myself, so it didn't even cross my mind.
That's all by the by now though. I've received some helpful pointers and talking to the police is something I'll likely persue.0 -
As long as you've sent it within 7 days of payment to the address shown on the payment page with tracking & I hope for £340 you sent it tracked.
Enter the Tracking number & Paypal will cover you under seller protection.
If sent to a different address, still enter the tracking number & don't mention the different location & you may still win.
No tracking, you've lost £340 & Paypal will get back it from you.
If the buyer has ever made a response to receiving the phone then you can take them to court0 -

This is true, but I think it would be nice upon receiving a payment if the email said in big bold captial letters: "do not send to an unconfirmed address" ...and maybe include a link to some kind of checklist of things to note, like obtaining proof of postage, packaging, taking photos of the item before you post it etc...
I know it was an error on my part, but it wouldn't do PayPal any harm to offer some helpful tips for future sellers. I will feed that back to them for what it's worth.0 -

I have sent them the tracking number - it was sent recorded. So I guess I'll see...0 -
take them to a small claims court.
You have their address. I would also go to my local police station. Don't let the criminal away with this - I feel sorry for you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

They do say that, I can't cut and paste as I'm on the iPad but by the address box it shows what you need for seller protection and includes a note about tracking to the address given, and a warning about not delivering in person or using a different address .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The message on the payment when you log into PayPal isn't quite the same, but this a what it says;
Payment Status: Completed
We recommend that you:
Send to the buyer's address on this page
Use a delivery service with signature confirmation
Save all tracking information or other proof of postage
Tips to sell securely
If you click on tips it goes into much more detail about seller protection.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks Soolin. Unfortunately it doesn't say any of this in the email I received from PayPal, titled 'notification of payment received' or in the email from eBay saying I'd successfully sold the item.
The email from PayPal just says you have received some money and provides the address. Obviously that's where I made a mistake, but if someone asks you to send something to a work address, you don''t think much of it... well I didn't anyway.0 -

Thank you.
I will certainly do what I can. What a swine they are! I'm sure I'm not the only one.0
