Interesting reading all this, but I will stick with Michelin. More expensive to buy but good grip, save a bit on fuel and last longer.

There are cheaper tyres and there are ditchfinders.

The real cheap chinese ones actually just fall apart ... I honestly wonder how they are allowed to be sold as tyres... thats not the same as budget tyres that may not be as good as big name brands but don't just have bits fall off the sidewall if you gently scrape a kerb.

And your evidence to back up this statement ?.
  • Wouldn't dare put cheap tyres on my car, got Goodyear Eagle F1A2's on at the minute, and shall be replacing them with the same when needs must, even if they are £700, lol.
  • I think budget tyres can be ok depending on the type of car and use. However branded tyres are safer without a doubt and all the tests out there back this up. Branded tyres have far shorter stopping distances which gives you a much better chance of avoiding any accidents. I have got Michelin tyres and they always feel very grippy and safe. I got them online from best 4tyres. I would always go with a branded option as I would rather have that peace of mind.
  • I have a budget tyre made by Event on the front. Never had any problems yet. Done >12K miles and still has 4-5mm tread left. Cost £38 fitted at the time.
