Today has been a complete nightmare for links hanging and timing out and I know some people are blaming Firefox but I dont' have this problem on any other site I go on. I've even tried the "view as IE" option as suggested by someone else but all I get is Access Denied - ARGHHHHHHHHHH
I use Firefox and I've had no problems in the past few days.0 -
Well my IE problem is now solved, thanks to the wonderful guys over on the techie board
... so I've been trying out MSE on there just now and I'm still experiencing a problem. It is still taking time to load a page and says "connecting to xx.xx.xx.xxx (presumably the IP address of MSE) before finally making a connection and loading the page.
It's not a constant problem and occurs intermittantly, but there's no rhyme nor reason to it, and it's not because the server is loaded with users as one of the worst periods today was early this morning with just 189 users online
I wondered if it my be my own ISP (EFH) and have checked their forums for system upgrades and connection problems but all that is fine, and I don't have this problem with any other website either ... I can load other web pages fine whilst waiting for the MSE pages to sort themselves out.
I'm at a loss now as to what to do or check next and it's really starting to pee me off, especially when it happens while trying to post and sometimes I lose what I've written and have to start again
Please tell me it's not just me having these problems"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

END OF THE DAY
no one has paid to join this forum
it is slow due to the amount of people currently online and using up the forum memory therefore it will be congested
if it is too slow come back another time or just leave
the owner is investing money into thsi forum and doesnt always want to hear the same old comments everytime!!!!!0 -

Well thank you kindly for your words of wisdom, you obviously can't read very well
It isn't anything to do with the amount of users online, as I already said, and I'm sure the tech team running the site are interested to hear about any technical problems users experience here and may be able to offer a solution or advice on how to correct it.
My "same old comments" as you put it are an attempt to get to the bottom of the problem by process of elimination and to find out if it's something at my end that's causing it that I can rectify. Simply going away and coming back another time resolves nothing as this problem isn't going to magically disappear on it's own!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Only just found this Curry_Queen and this is exactly the same for me.I am also with EFH and it has been happening about a week I think. No idea what is causing this though.Guest.0 -

I've just emailed them as it happens, as I had to contact them about something else anyway, so have raised this issue with them also.
Cheers
Edit: Just to re-iterate a couple of points though ... whilst exploring the EFH avenue, which as I said before I'm trying to sort this out through a process of elimination, I would have thought if it were an ISP problem then it would affect every sites I visit, and not just MSE. The fact M.E.2 is also with EFH may or may not be just coincidence as I know of another MSE'r experiencing the same problem and they're not with EFH.
I'll wait to see what they have to say first though, and I'm not "complaining" as such, as Acid tried to make out, but rather trying to solve a problem that to be honest is totally ruining my enjoyment of using this site at the moment"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

not necessarily the ISP is likely to have a cache of sites(ie a mass of stored pages), for sites which dont change reguraly the cache will be up-to-date and when you request that page it can be taken off their server immediately. However, MSE is dynamic, it is changing ALL of the time so there is no real cached page, hence every request for this page requires your ISP to send out a request as well hence slowing the process down.
however, this delay shouldnt normally be noticeable unless if perhaps your ISP was in another country that way your request would go to them(delay) they would request the page from this server(delay) the page gets sent back to the ISP(delay) and then from the ISP to you(delay).
my description may not be 100% accurate but thats the gist of it0
