It's difficult to put this across without sounding holier than thou, but I'd venture that ultimately there has to be some sort of endgame to the accruing of penalty points to punish persistent offenders.

Regardless of the various 'speed in itself isn't dangerous' arguments this system is, rightly or wrongly, the one that we live under.

I could be wrong but I'd imagine that after the second or third set of penalty points had been applied to a person's driving licence that person would automatically become extremely speed aware for fear of being banned, and stick to the speed limits wherever they went. :)

Took the words right out of my mouth, I don't need people like you telling me how to live my life just as I would not have the audacity to tell you. I just wanted to know the situation.
    .

Unfortunately, you are told how to live your life in certain circumstances and being told what speeds you can drive at on UK roads is one circumstance.

The situation? You clearly cannot be told as you keep getting caught speeding and a ban seems appropriate.

I'm sure this is what you will be told by the judge.

Post back when it finally sinks in.:)

    Pleasure is all mine.

If people don't want the flack then they shouldn't post on a public forum with a 'I'm the victim attitude'

People post on a forum for information not for flack.

the OP asked a simple question. There was no 'I'm the victim attitude' to it. If you cannot offer anything other than "flack" then you should try and keep it to yourself.

There are more people driving around without insurance, on drugs/drink no license etc... these are the people who should be off the road.

We have a system to penalize speed because its the easiest way to rase revenue.

How many football managers or high profile celebs manage to get away with some excuse for speeding? Are they any more of a risk to you? or just richer than most.

That, surely cannot be the limit - 42 allowed in a 30 limit ?
a collegue was recently charged for driving at 37mph in a 30 limit !!
42 in a 30 is the limit for being offered a speed awareness course - assuming he isn't in Scotland and hasn't done one in the last 3 years.

35 in a 30 is the point at which most forces take enforcement action, though that's a matter of discretion rather than law - there is no legal reason why you couldn't be prosecuted for doing 31 in a 30, assuming the equipment was accurate enough to tell the difference.

When you're so close to getting some points removed it seems harsh that they'd include them.
Three years is three years - there's no leeway on that. If they weren't included after 2 years and 11 months would it still be harsh on someone who got caught for the 4th time after 2 years, 10 months and 3 weeks?

Was the alleged offence within limit + 10% + 9mph, for example less than 42 in a 30?

It's actually 10% + 2MPH and thats only a recommendation from the ACPO.

used to be, think it changed last year. This table shows 10% +9 (just the first one in the google list).
