Andy, is that £500 just for the op, because if so that is steep. Ask how long the op takes and then ask how much they charge per hour operating time.

    Hope it all goes well.

Yep for the whole thing including the general..long story but my ex should be covering it but she's gone AWOL. Grr
  • The op my dog had cost £210.

So, £500 does sound very steep. However, I guess it depends on whether that sum also includes all the post appointments/treatments.

I'm guessing, that I will have to pay more for all the post op appointments & treatment. However, my insurance should cover it.

    Dammit ;)

Well I have an unhappy hound next to me...poor girl..breaks my heart seeing her like that but am SO glad she made it through op..fingers crossed her eye now heals.
  • £500 is way too much, is it a vet you use alot or as a new customer.

I had a bad time with a visit to a vet at at Pet Store ( not sure if I can mention here ) and they tried to rip me off so check.

My Border Collie has had 2 ops now on his eyes, and its awful to look at but it does do the trick. For my dog they are coming back, we treat them with an ointment twice a day, which works better than the drops we found.

The sunlight make them worse for some reason, and consider getting doggles, but as I value my arms deceided against it

Hope all is okay with your dog.
  • Glad to hear your pooch has come out of the op ok.

Yeah you feel really sorry for them, especially cause they don't understand what's happened to them. My dog is getting his stitches out tomorrow & I'm hoping the surgery has worked. Also, can't wait to see his face when he gets that cone thing off.

    cheers

I'm fortunate in that I work from home so I can bar around her. got her laid next to me. typically my other hound is also not allowed to walk at the moment (sprained knee) so I will have some stir-crazy dogs soon!

Hope things worked out for yours :)
  • Oh dear, your dogs have been in the wars. Poor them.

I will report back tomorrow with how the vets appointment went.

I have been taking my dog on short walks, however I waited till the first post op appointment. I asked the vet and he said it was ok to take him out. I just avoided places where there were bushes or long grasses.
  • My dog had bladder stones a few years ago and had to stay in the vets for a few days after the operation for that. When he came home he suddenly developed a severe eye ulcer. They could not save his eye. I asked the vet what caused it and she said it had been caused by the stress of staying at the vets. I believed this for years.

I found out recently from another vet that it would have been impossible for stress to cause an eye ulcer, he said the only cause would be a knock or injury to the eye.

So the first vets lied. Obviously covering up for themselves.
