The other problems with Mr/Mrs 40mph is that:
(1) They seem to travel at 40mph even through 30mph towns.
(2) An emergency service vehicle has to be on their tail for 30 seconds before they realise that they need to move over.
I subscribe to the concept of "reasonable progress" and not hindering traffic if I can help it.
"make reasonable progress" is exactly the phrase driving instructors use.
Of course what is "reasonable" is the sticking point here. If a car is doing 40mph in a 60mph zone on a clear road on a warm, sunny day is not same as doing 40 on the same road on a snowy, icy day.
The argument that you don't want to go any faster, or are conserving fuel, or that you're simply in no hurry doesn't mean that other people behind you aren't. To hold up a queue of traffic in an "unreasonable" manner could be held against you in court if for example, as a result of your actions there was accident caused by, say, someone overtaking you in frustration. :cool:Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0 -
LOL... I've been laughing a lot whilst reading this thread.
I often drive vintage vehicles whose maximum achievable speeds are a lot less than 60mph. Unfortunately , I can't always plan my journeys so as to stick to 20 and 30mph roads. I find most drivers are forgiving provided I treat them with consideration (encouraging overtaking if the road is clear, pulling off the road if a que has built up etc). my perception is The most unforgiving drivers are professional drivers (white van man, sales reps and LGV's)0 -

Is martinthebandit failing to grasp this because
1, He's just being awkward
2,.He's a troll
3, He's a cabbage, redefining the term "slow driver"
An I missing any other reason?0 -

Well from looking at some of the answers on this thread you have missed out;
4. Because he can
5. Because is not illegal
6. Because he is a tailgater and people will laugh when he has an accident
7. Because he is 56
Have I missed any?
Although really if I am 'failing to grasp it' I am not alone.0 -

Seems sensible to me, although I did think it was fairly implicit in my question that I was referring to people who drive cars that can attain the speed limit.0 -
