Just opening a 'selected first direct additional product' waives the fee, I chose the e-Saver and popped a pound in it. The cycling £1,500 is just one way of doing this, and you must do it if you want the free £100

I would just give them a ring rather than waiting for the post. They went through security for the 1st account and opened the RS for me all in one go on the telephone. One thing you might want to bear in mind is they need to setup a standing order for the RS so you need to get £300 into the current account the same day. If your bank does faster payments you can do this on the phone as well, otherwise they offer to 'diarise' the SO but there isn't much time left

Make use of the Customer Service they are well known for
  • We also have one RS and I have I just tried to do this and it wouldn't allow it.

Worked fine for me when I did it.

Note that you'll need to log in to online banking as the other person on the joint account to apply.

What are you trying to achieve by advertising on an Internet forum that you are breaking T&Cs by operating bank accounts in other people's names, without a legally valid authority to do so?
Still get easily upset i see.

What are YOU trying to achieve by repeating yourself over & over again when the person you're directing at has taken on board what you've said & chosen to dismiss it??

I'm interested in this but have a couple of questions.

Has anyone, not banking with HSBC and being a new customer to FD, successfully opened an account all done electronically?

When you have your monthly salary credit the account to satisfy their £1500, can you just move it out straight away?

As a new HSBC/FD customer (in the last month) I did everything electronically - except ringing them up to get setup for internet banking.

I also don't have my salary credit the account either, I just opened an e-saver and popped £1 in it.

May be call them? Their T&Cs don't consider joint account holders for the Reg Saver - - may be they have some discretion to override the T&Cs? After all, both of you could have their own current account and would then each be eligible for the Reg Saver.

Not sure why you think I am upset.

I have merely pointed out (again) that you are violating T&Cs of banks, and that it is unclear to me why you would advertise that fact on an Internet forum.

Of course you (along with everyone else) are free to ignore what I say - it's you who is taking risks of the consequences, not me.

BTW, could you resolve the issue that you had with your mother's Lloyds account?

I remember when they paid me 2% gross interest on my current account, those were the days.
When was that? I've had my account for 15 years now and was never offered interest on my current account.
  • Thanks so much. Mine matures next month, so OH has taken one out now. We were going to wait til March, but I don't think there'll be anything close to 8% for a while!

I've banked with them for 19 years and never had interest either.
