Also the withdrawal (in a weeks time) of the £125 sweetener for opening a current account with First Direct, saw it mentioned in this article over on thisismoney.co.uk:First Direct – an offshoot of HSBC – is offering new customers a £125 sweetener if they open a current account, pay in at least £1,500 a month and switch two direct debits. But you only have one week left to open it.

What are you trying to achieve by advertising on an Internet forum that you are breaking T&Cs by operating bank accounts in other people's names, without a legally valid authority to do so?0 -
Opened mine today, just a coincidence though!, although glad I've just started working again, so I can afford to open another regular saver.0

Poop, I've got one maturing early March!
I normally open a new one when it closes.....
It does say new customers though, so fingers crossed.I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.0 -
Thanks for the heads-up on this.
Applied for a First Direct current account on Monday (and got telephone confirmation yesterday) for the sole reason to get one of these accounts (my aim to feed in £1500 and out each month and have a couple of SOs).
I can feel a phone call coming on tomorrow as I have no paperwork and no payments set up yet.
Anyone got a gut feeling if I've left it too late?0 -
I phoned them last week and asked if they'd open the Regular Savings account for me on 2nd February (I get paid 1st monthly so the standing order coming off a day later would be more suitable). They called me today and explained that the product was being withdrawn from 1st February but did I want them to open it today and transfer the funds? Yes, please
I was actually kind of impressed they got in touch.0 -
Is it gone already then0

The joys of 24 hour (helpful) onshore telephone service!! They confirmed I could set this up online which I have now done and funded the first £300. Being a former FD customer I was already set up for online banking - just needed a reset. Good work FD.
I also asked about the fixed rate (2.3%) account and it was suggested that this was under review at the beginning of next month. Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere.
I'll be pushing the minimum £2k to a newly opened one of those soon too.
Thanks again to the OP on this.0
