Makes me cross...rant alert

Not if she hits you whilst doing 40, her brakes having failed, with you as a pedestrian...
MOTs are worthless as an indicator of the mechanical condition of a vehicle the moment the car leaves the ramp after the test.
A car could pass a MOT with barely legal tyres that could be completely bald a month later. Still has a MOT and in your mind that means it would be safe.
The mind boggles.
Cars are so reliable now that there are calls for moving to a 2 yearly MOT. Considering the govt thinks its OK to have 2 yearly MOTs it hardly makes having one a month or two out of test a massive risk.0 -

Sorely tempted to dob her in, for everyone's good. I know if my MoT was a day out of date I'd ping an ANPR before I got to the end of my street!
And yes she did know it was out-of-date but because she's a widow with 2 young kids she seems to have this mindset that's it ok, and she'll get round to it...rant over.
How often does your car get serviced? How often do you check the tyres?
Your second post smacks of jealousy.0 -
what is all this "brakes will fail if the car has no MOT" bull.....? it should really be "brakes will fail if the car has not been serviced"Not if she hits you whilst doing 40, her brakes having failed, with you as a pedestrian...
I found my sister did this when she was short of cash... couldn't believe she'd risk herself, others, etc.
MOT is only good for the day of the test, your car could be unroadworthy a few miles out of the test centre.0 -
Driving a car with no Tax or MoT is illegal...no if's, no buts. Get the reg and drop it in to your local police station. How the OP or any other Forum members maintain their own cars is of no consequence - the person in question is breaking the law and should be made to accept the consequences of doing that - laws are created for a reason. If everyone started "cherry picking" which laws we liked or didn't like then we'd end up with anarchy.DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499

I hardly think it smacks of jealousy. Would you not be annoyed knowing someone is breaking the law whilst you abide by the rules and do everything you have to do to make sure you are legal on the road? I know i would. If she's got a newly new car then she can clearly afford to mot and tax the car. If she's willing to break the law and continue driving illegally then she's clearly got no consideration for anyone.
And before you accuse me of being jealous, my car gets serviced every march when the mot is due and gets a winter check by a mechanic every November. The tyres we check ourselves inbetween these every month.0 -

Then why mention she is single, has a good income, can afford to work part time for spare cash and could afford to pay for a fairly new car in cash? It is completely irrelevant. I would say that the reason she can do that is because she is a widow as you say so lost her husband, the kids lost their father and they were fortunate enough that he thought enough of them to ensure he had plenty of life insurance. Perhaps her whole outlook is precisely because her world effectively got torn apart when he died.
But hey, she has what you don't have so lets stick the knife in a bit eh?Would you not be annoyed knowing someone is breaking the law whilst you abide by the rules and do everything you have to do to make sure you are legal on the road?
I've long got past the point where it works me up any more. So many people break various laws that if you got wound up about them all you'd end up in a mental institution.
Phone the police and then get on with your life and stop worrying what others do with theirs.0 -
Is it old enough to require an MOT?Robin-i'-the-Hood wrote: »paid cash for a nearly-new car
Lack of MOT will not invalidate insurance. But if she has no road tax and no MOT, I do wonder if she actually has insurance.0 -

We all suffer because of unreported crime through higher insurance premiums and one of the reasons offenders repeat offences is because people like you do nothing to report crime.
Good Luck catching the criminals next time your car is stolen / house burgled / wallet stolen because you won't be reporting it will you?...or is that different?DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499
