    Morning all

Congratulations to all those that managed to resist temptation - to those that didn't manage it last night then today is a brand new day :D

3/12 AFD's for me please Shaggy - although I keep looking at other peoples targets of 20+ and think that I am a bit of a lightweight only declaring 12 for the month :o. I set mine at 12 thinking it was being realistic but in a way I am accepting the fact that I am 'allowing' myself to drink for 18 days which is not very good .

I be interested to know how the rest of you decide on your targets?

Have a good day everyone :)

4 please, Shaggy, ta I met friends on 5 November, and had a lovely evening. :) I had 3 glasses of wine, then came home and had no more, which is pretty good for me :) So no hangover yesterday :j
  • Hi All

I would like to join your thread. I have been going totally alcohol free on my own without tellng anyone or having a final plan and have managed 25 days AF :o. Eventually I may just cut to only drinking when out, as it's drinking at home that escalates my intake for the week. I had gradually built to drinking wine every night of the week.

Wouldn't say it has been easy, been a very hard habit to break for me. I think having the forum and the support of others will help.

So far have 6 AF days for Nov. Nov target is 30 days AF. Somehow I don't feel ready yet to start drinking in a moderate way and don't want to risk planned alcohol days, it may just set me right back to a month ago!!!! :o

I met my friend for a drink last night. I had one cocktail (they were on offer) and whilst I enjoyed it, I didn't have a desire to have more! This makes me 6/7 AFD's :) so still on target!

    hi Sukeyboo
What I do is have a spreadsheet (sigh!) and mark up each day of the month along with meal plan and any planned social activities, so like a diary really for the month ahead. Then I look at out how many nights out/dinners etc I have where I am likely to/want to have a drink. In my case that's not very many! So then I know how many AFDs I am roughly able to expect that month, but then add a couple for unplanned/contingency circumstances in case of last minute invites/people turning up at home etc... Hence this month my target is 25 AFDs out of 30 as I know i have a couple of dinners and meeting friends etc and a couple "spare" should I need them. If I don't need them, then even better, I get to beat my target!! Good luck in deciding how you want to calculate yours. I am definitely working on the basis of simply not drinking alcohol at home any more.

Winebox - Sorry to hear about your DD :( It must be awful for you. I know I would be destroyed if my girls treated me like that. Is she an only child? If she has a brother or sis, could they speak to her for you? or another family member she is close to? If not, her school will have a family support person. Ours is fantastic. It might be worth speaking to her/him or your DDs teacher?

I have A1an C@rrs book "How to cut down your alcohol" or similarly named, and it is really good. It has helped me understand the problem but I can't find the book and I really want to re-read it

    Love to all :A

Thanks Fru, will consider the school support - I mentioned to her re counselling though & she was desperate not to - begged me - so might feel betrayed if I go that way. Yes she's an only child, & lost her dad at 6 yrs old, & then his daughter her step-sister who she'd only met after he died & she was so made up at having a sister! but she was in a road accident, all in all a lot of loss in her short life (she has no grandparents now) & family members all live some way away.....oh dear.

Also thanks Sukey for your kind words on the subject.

Fru I also read Allen Carrs book I think it's about £7 on Amzon if really lost! He certainly helped me stop smoking but I found the alc one & the weight loss one (where did the rolleyes smiley go?) both referred back to the smoking one a bit too much!

I always aim to improve on the previous month, so 2 is target for November then (Shaggy - pls don't trouble!!!!)

Who went for a "crispy walk"? oh yes SPS (pls tell me your name is not a homage to Ed "Stewpot" Stewart) - you're lucky, the whole of Wilts has turned into a mudbath, littered with cowpats. I'm walking for a minimum of an hour a day to try & get some discipline back - the dog's put on weight too & that's my fault not his!

Hi sukey, so you think you're a lightweight!:o:rotfl:

I must admit to having a very relaxed attitude now I know I can cut down. Also, on my planned drinking days I have much less than I used to due to reduced tolerance. So, basically I've arrived at a regular target of 10 but I know I'm going to at least meet it and beat it if I can. I plan to drink every weekend but not on school nights unless I go out or we have people round. Depending how the dates fall during the month and how social I am, I could get up to 16 AF days in. Holidays is different but I do try to get to my target before/after. It's too easy to fall back into daily drinking so jumping back on the wagon is essential.

I need to rethink how i set my target. I am glad I reached target last month BUT alcohol is still having a negative impact on my life and finances so I think <deep breath> that I am going to have to reduce my drinking days to something like 5 a month. At the moment I am 'allowing' myself to plan to feel like crap for 24 days this month! That is WRONG on so many levels.

However, I am not quite ready to commit to 26 days AF so I will just try to beat my target whilst keeping the 'end goal' in mind.

This is exactly where I would like to be as I don't plan to be AF for life, but would like to know I can get back into 'normal' drinking
