Ignore the nay - sayers as your the one trying to change your life for the postive.
Its far better to have tried (and maybe fail), than never to try at all.
I had previously tried to stop drinking (without much success), then 18 months ago I made the choice to try again and this time it worked.
I have now been AF for 18 months.Hello everyone.
I used to come on here quite some time ago but left when some-one said there was 'no hope' as I had tried - and failed - many times to stop drinking completely.
This morning I have decided that there is hope. Instead of promising myself I will quit forever I will just concentrate on today.
Today is a 'new day' and I will not have a drink - so my target today is 1 AFD.
There are a couple of old faces on this thread and many new ones too. I look forward to joining you all on my new journey.

New Day
Thanks for posting. I feel very strongly that this thread is for givers-up and cutters-down and value the supportive atmosphere. In the early days I almost left because there was an undercurrent that if you came on here you had to admit to being an alcoholic and giving up was the only way forward. I used the ignore button instead.;)
Welcome back, and good luck tonight!0 -
Did you know that alcohol depletes the amount of oxygen available to your body. I used to regularly run with a hangover: it's not conducive to running personal bests.
My best was a 10k run and two laps of an assault course at Sandhurst Army base which I did in 50 mins and 1 second. Did that with one of the worst hangovers of my life. Personal best for 10k was only 48 minutes at the time so I definitely did a PB during the event0 -
13/30 AFDs for me.
Boss, how are you now? Better I hope.
Came off antibiotics 10 days ago but still have the remains of an ulcer on my uvula (top of throat thing that hangs down). Have been feeling a bit jaded this week so assume some of the virus is still in me but the worst has gone.0 -

Never mind.

Wow, Boss, 50m 1s is boss! My longest run was a half marathon (Great North Run) in 2005, but a severe back problem affecting 3 discs in 2010 meant I couldn't run for a couple of years. I love the way I leave all my problems behind when I run.
Sorry you're still not properly better, poor you. Salt water gargles are beneficial for throat ulcers, if you can bear them.
New Day, sorry you felt intimidated by previous posters, but I'm glad you've come back. The current posters are all very supportive. I guess if you think you're drinking too much, then you're drinking too much. I felt I was drinking too much: I always lost the "stop" button when I had wine in the house. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
