Miracles do happen. I asked DH to pop in to Tesco and buy two items and he did!! At last we are getting somewhere. He wouldn't tell me how much he spent to deduct from my total as he says I am becoming obsessed with watching spending. I will find out though and deduct it from this months total.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Since 1st May
Co-Op £5.56
Tesco £86.69
Previously I said I'd update an Asda spend when I had the receipt
It was £13.01
I spent about £8.00 in co-op last night but £6.00 of that was a points voucher, I bought things which I didn't need at this time but won't go off, such as tooth paste, washing powder etc.
So this month I'll aim for £206.00 and see how I get on.
This is for two adults, and includeds cleaning and smellies, the reason I include those is because its possible to cut down on those costs as well.
Oh and it includes wine as well0 -
I asked my OH to pick a few items from the shops on his way home from work the tonight. He came home with what I asked, but decided to buy 2 bags of apples for £2.00 and a bag of reduced salad, which has to be eaten today. It was reduced to 20p. Anyway. I tried to explain to him that I only really wanted the stuff I asked him to get, because now I was £2.00 less for the rest of the week. He couldn't see it like that, saying I won't have to buy apples next week now, so I will be £2.00 better off next week. I think I got him to realise that , I now have apples I don't need, and if I needed to get something for £2.00 before Friday I can't, because he just spent it???!!! lol. I think he thinks I'm getting fussed about nothing. Oh well. I'll educate him yet lol. Any of your husbands do this...buy things you don't really need????0

Hi everyone! Mind if I join in please???? I did start to get our shopping down a fair bit, but just lately, although it seems I'm buying less, the shopping bill is higher.
How on earth do you feed 5 of you and a dog on £32 a week oldmacdonald?
My budget for the month is usually £220 for 2 of us a dog and cat. We have chickens, but I sell their eggs, so that money feeds them.
I am developing my veg patch, but nothing big enough to eat yet. roblem is, OH and I eat too much, but cutting down isn't easy. WE don't buy any ready meals, I cook everything from scratch. I do bake my own bread sometimes, but always look out for the BOGOFF's and freeze. I don't buy booze any more, OH doesn't drink, and I've started making my own wine again. I buy a big bag of rice and a big bag of sugar which makes 3 gallons, and I buy the bags of carrots that they sell for horses for £1.80 and £3 for the sugar and that makes 3 or 4 gallons. Also next door gave me loads of rhubarb as his is bigger than mine and I've used it to make 2 gallons of wine. Just picked some our own today for rhubarb and ginger conserve.
But any tips greatly appreciated. I'll work out what I've spent so far this month, as I think I have all my receipts, and put it in later. Wish me luck, I'll need it0 -
My second weekly shop added to my sig. So far I'm on budget..... :j

Thought I'd do a progress report more for me than anything else
We got paid on the 27th which is when my budget started and so far out of my £315.00 budget I've spent ::drumroll:: £79.25 in 2 weeks!!! Normally by now I'd have spent about £200.00 on takeaway, stuff I buy and don't use and it gets thrown away and junk food! I'm so chuffed with myself :T I've mealed planned for this month and June using what's in the cupboards and the freezer and know what I need to buy in, no more blind shopping trips when anything goes into the shopping trolley! The amount spent so far includes getting in a months worth of cat food as it was on special offer and saved us £12 over the month.
I can't believe how easy it is, food tastes better and I've been cutting down on our portions to, eg 1 pork chop each instead of 2, less meat and adding more veg or pulses and I've lost 3lb in weight since the 27th!!! :j
I've dug the slow cooker out to make a beef casserole with stewing beef from the freezer (took it out now so should be defrosted by tomorrow morning???) so we'll have that for tea tomorrow. Me and the breadmaker are best of friends again, it makes my yummy cinnamon and raisin bread for my brekkie and will be making a homemade pizza base at weekend
This week I've made coconut cake and it came out just like my Mums, I made a carrot cake that was so delicious hubby actually said 'that was very nice cake' after scoffing a piece then helping himself to another! Hubby NEVER compliments my cooking I always have to ask what he thought and 99.9% of the time he says it was OK! We've had lovely quiche with salad one day, then the other half warmed up with chips and beans the next and a few other yummy things that I haven't cooked for years! I'd got lost in pre-packed anything that's fast and easy to do at the end of the day. I'm ashamed to say we ate way too much junk prior to now
Hubby is thrilled with the new menus, but still doesn't think I'll make it to the end of the month without splurging and the cheeky monkey asked if I'd been taking cooking classes while he's at work, like I have the time lol! Thanks to everyone that's posted ideas, recipes and inspiration, if I continue on this track we'll save a fortune and I'll have a wonderful holiday next year :jNSD Challenge 2010:Jul 12/12; Jun 21/14 :T; May : 6/6

Well done Herbaholic! :j
Its scary to think back to how I used to shop before I found this site; I think you hit the nail on the head - menu planning is the secret to success... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
