  • Does the laptop actually have an ieee 94 adaptor/connector ? It may help also if you tell everyone what your laptop is running eg W7/Vista/XP 32/64 bit

It won't but that is an Apple invention (I think) bit like
USB (ie Serial connector) and is used for things like My old Camcorder, My USB/Firewire external disk etc.
Anyhow back to the question , I dunno really I have W7/64 and iTunes and never seen this message on mine... not much help I suppose , however go to Control Panel/Device manager and see if your laptop thinks it has one. Erstwhile I will reload this lappy with W7 and have a look, currently usin Linux. Whilst waiting of course a superstar may come along and give us both the answer....

That to me is a key question, iirc even Apple have stopped using an IEEE 1394 controller, but at one time it was the main external connector for use on Apple devices, and was on the early Ipod's as their only connection.

So my guess is the version of itunes is very old, as IIRC apple don't even have firewire on their computers/laptops now.

  • OK , now I am flying blind now, I don't have an iPhone (but a iPad) what happens when you connect it to a different USB port from the one you normally use ? does it say installing driver ? or when you go to Devices and printers does it show your phone ?
