As far as I am aware, SarEl doesn't work out of any chambers.... she is retired.

In any event, it is unreasonable (in my view) to demand that ANY poster should provide their real name and/or details of their place of work, whether in a private pm to some nameless, faceless stranger, or on open forum (in fact on MSE exchanging personal details is actively discouraged).

The bottom line is, you do not know who is giving advice on these forums or whether they are who claim to be. Information obtained on a forum is just that. In the case of legal issues, it is always best to take your own independent advice before acting on such information.

(By the way, in my past work, I was really a cleaner in a solicitors office, but it really is quite surprising what you can learn from the stuff those guys throw in the bin ;) )
I also find it interesting that no one is contradicting 99% of SarEls advice she gives....if they were it would raise a doubt, as they don't I am happy to believe what she puts.

Also, if I did need some advice I may ask on the net but I would go see a professional!
Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked

I agree in principle, however, the difference between MSE and the redundancy forums is that the forum in question DOES endorse her as an Employment Law Expert, if you click on that link, it takes you to this page: http://www.redundancyforum.co.uk/employees-ask-redundancy-questions/1960-sarel-employment-advice/

That is an official endorsement from the site as opposed to a random poster claiming to be a barrister, in which case the site obviously couldn't be held responsible for verifying everyone's claims. For example, MSE has over a million members, which would make it impossible for Martin and his team to check out every poster's credentials.

Furthermore, PT2537 (who is also a member on here) is not a nameless, faceless stranger, he is a lawyer and known to quite a few people across various forums. In fact, I happen to know exactly who he is and some of the cases he's been involved in.

Not normally, you don't, however, on that forum she gets official accreditation. There are people on here who post as company reps or on behalf of the CAB, I would assume those who are allowed to post in such official capacities have been verified, otherwise what would stop, say, me, from claiming to be a retired doctor and start giving medical advice!

Thanks for that, I didn't realise she is endorsed as an employment law expert on the other forum. I assume, in that case, the site would have checked her credentials?

Also apologies to PT2537 - my comment about nameless, faceless, strangers was intended as a general comment, and was not directed at him personally.

Nevertheless, I do still believe that it is not appropriate to demand that a poster identifies herself or her place of work on a forum. However well known PT2537 may be in some circles, I certainly would not have had any way of knowing who he was, and that may well be the case for SarEL. However, since she is accredited on the forum, it may be that the easiest way to deal with any concerns might be to approach the site team directly.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

I do wish legal execs would not refer to themselves as lawyers!
