Good luck The cleaning guy, make sure you give an update (when or if you get a reply). The best thing you can do at work is join a Trade Union.

From what I've read, the employer is the one in the wrong and tried to be clever with the aid of Google. I also want to see the employer's face when they read the prepared letter.0 -
Great letter from SarEl, a vindictive employer certainly brings out the best in her especially one who does not know what they're talking about.
I hate to imagine how much the advice and letter would have normally cost the cleaning guy (Perhaps Lazydaisy could give us a ball park figure). Nice that CG is donating to SarEl's favoured charity.
Typing up that letter / reply without the thought that went into it would have taken a considerable time, MSE have lost a very valued poster.0 -

Good point!
It's certainly a wonderful reply SarEL has written and I hope the employer really gets a good roasting (and legal papers served against him). There are far too many rogue employers out there trying to screw people over (I've worked for loads of them).0 -

Thecleaningguy SarEl is an Employment Barrister so your exemployer will not know what hit him when she gives drafts the letter.
SarEl used to post on here but a very very small minority of ignorant posters did not appreciate the good thing we had an MSE.
I miss SarEl, wish she'd come back0
