Spare bedroom stinking of cat from previous owner

As per title, bought house last month, after viewing it in October! when we viewed the house, cat was not here nor was any signs of it being here on show. Got keys came in and spare bedroom was obviously a cats room as it stinks!!
Laminate flooring and papered walls. We have scrubbed it all, even with flora disinfectant and it works for a few hours(as cleaning stuff hides smell) then the stink of cat comes back. Any ideas how to solve? Think we will take off all wallpaper for a start, will we be aswel replace the laminate flooring aswel as its not a big room!

Can't provide direct help unfortunately, but there may be some help in the suggestions (look between the jokes!) in this thread (similar topic!).

The cats pi$$ as probaly seeped under the laminate, if thats the case you will have to lift laminate , disinfectant, leave windows open constantly to make sure the floor gets plenty of fresh air , and decorate ......
I wouldnt lay another floor for at least 2 months, cats pi$$ stink rotten and will take ages to go.........0 -
Here is a web address that may give you some ideas of how to rid these smells but it is not a British site.
Try google with your questions:)

I imagine the smell is in the laminate, remove that (and any underlay etc) and clean the floor beneath, then spray white vinegar all over the floor.0

If it has soaked through the laminate into the floorboards, it will be very difficult to iradicate the smell."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Yes you would be better to take laminate up asap. If it is not too big an area you can paint it with vinegar and bicarb of soda mixd up and leave to dry . It will take some away. In the letting business you often have to replace the actual floor boards if they are heavily soaked with dog/cat urine. Air it well and then ask someone else if they can smell it as you might just be super sensitive to it.0

Ok will definitely make sure smell gone before new stuff goes down, will rip up flooring and underlay tomorrow and clean well. Then maybe a few days airing the room and clean again. A few more days airing and then next weekend get the new lamanite flooring down. Might strip the wallpaper tomorrow aswel and in a few weeks redecorate it.
Is flora disinfectant enough sufficient for cleaning the floor beneath lamanite ?:eek:Living frugally at 24

Interesting replies. As a retired carpet fitter working in peoples homes every day for about 40 years,it never ceased to amaze me what people would let their "Pets" get up to that they wouldn't dream of putting up with from their children. Just viewed a very nice house as a very good price and the Estate Agent actually apologised for the smell before opening the front door, very glam lady owner with 5 Siamese cats that had the run of the house.Unbelievable stench,we didn't bother going past the hall.I think I'd have had to replace the floorboards and skirting just for a start.0

No help to your problem at all, but don't condemn the old owners too quickly.
If the room didn't smell of cat when you viewed it's unlikely it was the 'cats's room' They probably shut Tiddles in there on moving day so it didn't get lost and it's pee'd itself out of fright with all the moving going on outside.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
