Getting rid of the smell of urine.. :(

Hi all

Have had an unfortunate experience recently with a lodger who moved out of my house and, unbeknown to me at the time, left me several gallons of his own urine in hundreds of cans, some of which spilt over and ruined the carpet. All the cans are now gone and the carpet has been ripped out so that I'm back to bare floorboards but, sadly, the stink remains. Can anyone recommend what I should use to scrub the floorboards as I've been advised that standard cleaning products wouldn't be enough..?

Cheers

Biological washing powder is used for cats and dogs and you can buy special products with more concentrated enzymes to do the job too though they might be a bit expensive in the quantities you might need.

I would suggest more vigilance in the 1st place would have been prudent as this statement would indicate a prolonged period of time to have elapsed for this to get to this state!

Sorry but prevention is better than cure?

Yeah, thanks mum. Anyone else got any *practical* advice that doesn't involve time-travel?

Getting rid of urine? You're trying to take the p*** now!
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

you might want something like this http://www.robharvey.com/urine-remover.htm
either that or just replace the boards or as a last resort watch back to the future and see if you can fix a flux capacitor to your car

Talcum powder. Lots of it, left on the boards for a few days, then vacuumed up.. You may find, if there are cracks between boards, that pee has gone through. If so, you really need to clean out any dust and debris from underneath.

You can use shake n vac, but the fine grains of talc do the same job, and it is cheaper to use.

Yes, white vinegar. It works on cat pee so it should work on filthy lodger pee too.

Spray neat lemon flash all over the floor and leave.......Keep the windows open day and night for weeks and it will go eventually......
