you will nedd something with enzymes in to kill off the bacteria, anything else will just mask the smell for a while , didn't you smell anything before your lodger left ?

Nope, he kept the door firmly shut and the windows open, smoked non-stop and had a plentiful supply of air-fresheners in there so, the room just smelled of smoke mainly whenever I rarely ventured in there...
  • Bicarbonate of soda is the best thing for soaking up smells. Buy as much as you can, sprinkle the area all over, cover every spot and then, leave it alone for 24 hours. Sweep, then hoover off the debris. Then, spray neat white vinegar all over the area and again leave for 24 hours. Then steam mop the area. Don't forget to treat the skirting boards. I'm sorry, it must be hideous for you. Wear a DIY mask and blast out some music when you're doing it.
  • Surgical spirit - good for neutralising smells & disenfects too.

i endorse use of vinegar (brown or white being as you havent any carpet laid). Vinegar neutralises uric ammonia whether animal or human. In this instance it would be best to use it neat. Don't scrub and wipe it away, just leave it to soak, so that it can treat floorboards. Good luck.

Use vinegar OR bicarb both are good at cleaning though in the case of pee I would stick to biological washing powder to actually break down the urea.

If you use both you will simply produce sodium acetate plus water and carbon dioxide http://www.howtospotapsychopath.com/2012/06/22/fizzing-the-floors/

Hey, come on! Nobody's asked the vital question!

Why did he have cans of his own urine (and, of course, why did he leave them for you)?

You didn't allow him use of the toilet? He wanted revenge for something or other?

    Hi all

Ok, have tried Bicarbonate of Soda and left it a few days then vacuumed it up but the smell still remains. Am gonna try vinegar next but not sure how to apply it. Anyone know what to do..? :)

If it's that bad try the specific pet urine removers - they do apparently work or at least something like biological washing powder (dilute) which contains enzymes to break it down.
