Cancelling Contract Question

Options
Hi All,

I'm looking to cancel one of my mobile contracts by paying of the remaining months. I have two contracts with the same provider and as I say I'm looking to cancel one of them. I'm not sure if they will allow me to do this or not. I am aware that cancelling early will probably incur a termination fee so thats not an issue. I'm just concerned that it might be a case of cancel both contracts or nothing.

Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing?

I'm with Orange if that helps at all.

Thanks in advance..

If separate contracts, you can terminate one early if you wish. Though there's little point, as the ETC will be the remaining payments left on the minimum term contract.

They will be happy to allow canceling one contract and to pay the ETC. Even more, they are likely to give you 1/6 discount ('VAT').

Urban myth. VAT is unaffected on any unused service term, the difference depends on the policy of the network, who may offer a reduction based on the non-use of the inclusive packages, but this is not guaranteed.
  • Thanks for the responses - do you know if I will need a valid reason to end the contract early or will they just accept paying the remaining months off?

I had 2 Orange contracts until recently. I cancelled one in September and left the other one running (cancelled in December). Only had a month left, so had to pay the next bill, but was no problem cancelling.

They did ask why, which is fair enough - just told them I had a better deal and left it at that. They don't seem to try too aggressively to keep you in my experience.

    And your point is...?
Have I not said likely and 'VAT' (not VAT)? Who cares how it is called? What matters is that it's 1/6 and Orange reportedly do this.

A valid reason is only needed to cancel the contract without paying the ETC.

Who cares? Well why mention VAT when it has little (if any) relevance to an ETC. some offer a small discount and others do not - it is the policy of be individual network. Most won't provide any rebate.

No valid reason is required, as they will charge regardless if you do not complete the required minimum term. The option to you of terminating early and paying the balance, or letting it run and paying it up until you can give notice and leave normally is a choice only you can make.

Wrong. I can't be arsed to argue about the legalities, but examples have been posted several times here from the final bills quoting the ETC separately from the charges subject to VAT.

Well, I don't think that Orange and Vodafone are real minority.
