They blame the banking system, which is rubbish, I can make an online payment and it is with the recipient in 2 hours. Goodness knows how those without the means to wait for the return of the money manage.

Umm no it is not total rubbish as you clearly have no idea.

They do not use the faster payment system that allows consumers to make bill payments!!!!!!

They will be using a card merchant system which is totally separate and different to the banks systems.

The card merchant system that I have personal experience of have told us that refunds can take up to 30 days!!!!! normally 3-5 working days.

They may use that system, but what precludes them from using the faster payments system?

Nothing, they take payment via a system which allows debits much more quickly, forgive me for being cynical as to why they cannot credit via the same system.

Forgive me if I detect you have an agenda;)

Oh yes and what agenda would that be? Oh you mean I work for Asda or a card merchant system company :rotfl:of course I do :rotfl:or is it because I understand how a card merchant system works unlike yourself.

The card merchant system is normally a third party company and nothing to do with the company taking the payment.

Faster payments is for consumer to consumer or consumer to business transactions. Not the other way around.

If you want to moan about the 2-3 day turn around for refunds then you need to moan at the merchant card company not Asda. As Asda request the refund (just like I would do) and after than point it is out of my hands there is nothing I can do to speed it up.

It maybe annoying but I can't really be bothered to get angry, upset or uptight about something like this as life is to short.

rather than a debit card its best to use a credit card with a decent credit limit for online grocery shopping, then these money tied up/ refund issues simply don't occur, for those on the bread line you can't beat going into the store itself and paying there and then for items you take away in carrier bags, this way you will also be able to pick up more reduced items :money:

If more consumers pushed for a swifter repayment scheme then it would be available. I am sure it is available, but just not used. If people accept that “this is the way it is” then change will never be effected. For those shops and businesses who use the card payment system there is no incentive to push for change as the monies stay in their accounts longer.

You appear to use the system, hence my agenda comment.;)

I am fortunate that I can wait for a refund and still fund my replacement weekly shop, others are not so fortunate which is why change needs to be effected. You may have no issue with a shop having £180 of your money for 5 days when you have never received the goods, but I suspect you are in the minority.

With regard to using a credit card I would imagine that those who can least afford to wait for a refund may not want to use such a card or not be eligible for one.

Additionally, some of those on the lowest income are those for whom the home delivery service is a lifeline. The OP for example. Going to the shops is easier for some people than others.

Ok we will agree to disagree. I have agenda because I use a system to take card payments. Does that apply to people who work on the tills at any shop because they take payments from your card using a till?

Sorry but you are just amazing. I am explaining what happens. Did I say it was just or correct, nope not in anyway. You are assuming something.

So rather than waste time having a go at Asda ask them who they use for there card payment system and talk directly to them about it.

And if you feel that strongly about it than do something about it. Me personally it has never worried/concerned me the length of time a refund takes as long as it arrives with me at some stage.

And before you say that I have tens of thousands in the bank you are wrong. I earn a lot less than national average but I manage and even manage to save a bit because I do my best to keep my bills as low as possible and go with out if need be.

I just think it comes across loud and clear that you have no empathy with those who may be really affected by the refund procedure. Personally I am not, but I can see that some people would be, not the least the OP. Nor is it particularly relevant to how money is managed.

As for wasting time having a go at ASDA, if everyone did it, they in turn would put pressure on their banks and change would be effected. Alternatively, if everyone is as apathetic as you seem to be nothing would ever change.;)
