In this case I would agree, OP has charged for recorded (£2.20 + 95p) and I don't see how a buyer can now expect to dictate another service.I don't tend to buy from sellers who use recorded, but then I also wouldn't expect to be able to buy and tell them to knock off the 95p later as I don't want to pay it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I fully understand. No, it is because I want to be able to claim my loss if item goes astray. Up to £46 I am covered standard mail, over that I am not. I understand the difference between protecting myself against rogue buyers and protecting myself against loss, I don't find that distinction difficult- but if anyone does then the postage sticky thread explains what you need to do in case of loss. The fact you asked that shows you do not understand what insurance is for.
I thought businesses could no longer claim compensation?
.
My point is that you think, and others think that, sending an item recorded means you do not trust the seller and deserve any low stars that you might get.
Yet if you send an item SD you are doing the right thing and are a good seller!
Same difference.(except the cost and compo' level)Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -
Well if we are going to have a debate about it....
Recorded hacks me off for cheaper items as a buyer. It means up to 5 days delay in collecting my item from the depot that always has at least a 20 min wait no matter when you turn up.

I'll 2nd that, why should i pay extra so the seller has the satisfaction of possibly knowing i got the item. Mind you,i always leave feedback so they would know anyway and that doesn't cost extra!!

Yes because it is all to do with leaving myself able to reclaim my loss. So under £46 I am covered standard mail over £46 I am not.
Actually though, the point you highlighted about insurance is probably why we are disagreeing. Even as a business I am covered standard mail (recorded would make no difference) as the business post not covered is a certain sort of franked post, whose name completely escapes me, but which I do not use.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sending an item untracked means unscrupulous types merely claim it never arrived and Paypal grant them a full refund from your account with a smile.
I send anything I am not prepared to give away tracked by some method. Those who leave low stars for receiving an item tracked are likely those who were hoping to get it for free.
No of course I don't trust people on eBay - they are strangers.
To the OP about the clown trying to dictate your postage terms, just do a non payment on them as others have said. Your item, your terms.0 -
Half the time, RD's I send don't track beyond "sent" and postie puts mine through my letter box, not even signed for himself.
Those that think RD has a guaranteed proof of delivery are silly.
As Soolin has said, you can get same compensation as RD for free with a COP.0 -
As a regular ebay buyer, I don't like items being sent recorded either, particularly not if they charge me more for their choice to use this 'service'. It's a pain having to go and queue up at the sorting office, rather than having it put through my door.0

I cannot see any point in all these discussions about P&P. If like me, you bid on an item, the P&P becomes part of my bid. As a seller, I would never enter into any communication with a buyer who queries it.0

As a seller I agree that I would not expect a buyer to start questioning how I am posting something, Op has quoted for recorded and that is how it will be sent.
Our fear as sellers is that buyers can then leave stars and those stars determine a number of things, including whether we keep our accounts. most buyers judge sellers against each other, so they buy three things, one seller charges actual postage, one charges a little extra and the third one charges three times more than stamp price. Many buyers would probably automatically lose a star or two to the seller who charged considerably more than the other two, it is human nature.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
