Buyer telling me how much he wants to pay for postage!!

The only reason for using recorded is because you don't trust buyers, it has no other purpose at all as it is not an enhanced service nor does it offer additional insurance.
There's far too much anecdotal "evidence" on this forum which when repeated becomes written in stone.
Most ebayers are soon to be compelled to use this service when RM is revamped anyway.0 -
I never thought sellers considered me to be a scammer until i started reading threads on this forum.
Tend to go for items without recorded now(more a ball ache when i miss the postie(everytime)). Without testing fate,i've never not received an item i've ordered with standard P+P. Unfortunately anyone selling with recorded loses my custom now.
On the other side of the coin,a mate of mine uses recorded only, even for items above the insurance threshold. He says its to stop INR claims. I've checked his stars and P+P is 4.6. Guess there is some truth in what Soolin says.

Absolutely not, I use it to ensure I can check goods have arrived at their destination.
Also, as it goes, Royal Mail deliver fairly promptly and any first class item not delivered can easily be shown as so using a tracking number, and so it can aid communication with a buyer that has not received an item.0 -

Recorded is not tracked though, all you have if buyer does not have their item in a timely manner is proof it was posted, which is what I have with a free proof of posting from RM.
I do also wonder why you need to know whether item has arrived or not, do you get lots of problems with non delivery? I always assume My things are fine unless the buyer tells me otherwise.
Another reason for me not using it is cost, even on my lower level of 100 items sent a month it would cost me £95 to use recorded, and personally I would prefer to keep that money myself rather than waste it at the post office.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Absolutely, many sellers still believe post and packing is also transport, shoe leather and a nice latte on the way to the Post office. Unfortunately those sellers make is very difficult for those sellers who only charge actual stamp price plus a few pence for packaging.
But many sellers charge exactly what it costs to post an item, everything included.

I am aware that we are a small percentage of eBay users on here, but anecdotally users do seem to find stars are lower for those that use recorded. That is exactly the same experience as those that post on the community boards. In fact some of our regulars here have had issues.

So whilst there is even a small percentage of buyers that object to the inference of them being a scammer, sellers will have issues.Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -

You could post 1,000,000 items a month at 99% less than the cost price and still get hammered on your DSR ratings.Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -
But you could also say that the DSR system is rotten and open to idiots marking sellers how they feel like, even if it is 'wrong'!

I know! I got a low postage DSR off someone who I had undercharged for postage by just under £2...and they left a nice comment with no complaint or mention of postage. And no, I didn't send it recorded....just standard. I charged them £3.50 thinking it was a packet, but it cost £5.30 to send as a standard parcel...and they still gave me a low star!0 -
Perhaps you can tell me why you post anything tracked (ie courier or SD),is it because you do not trust your buyer?
No, it is because I want to be able to claim my loss if item goes astray. Up to £46 I am covered standard mail, over that I am not. I understand the difference between protecting myself against rogue buyers and protecting myself against loss, I don't find that distinction difficult- but if anyone does then the postage sticky thread explains what you need to do in case of loss. The fact you asked that shows you do not understand what insurance is for.
As always though sellers can make their own decisions, personally I should be urging every one of my competitors to use recorded as that makes my goods 95p cheaper than theirs and really does help my sales and my stars.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If it were me I'd post the order Recorded at my cost, no doubt about it. Trouble at the start usually means trouble all the way through. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0
