At 4 months I was going to mix DD feeds with BF am and pm feed and formaula in the day. I BOUGHT SOME sma gold. Her dad gave her the bottle and I walked in after she had 2oz and her face was bright red! Like other posters have said, she also had a nettle rash.
The GP gave us LF sma milk (lactose free) and the same thing happened. SO then we gave her sma wysoya soya milk but she wouldn't take it.
We saw a dietician this week which took a 4 month wait
 She is on a dairy free diet. She has the soya milk in cooking and on her breakfast but still wont take it from a bottle! I just hope my milk stays ok! Luckly I m not going back to work till she is 12months.
The dieticain said the try cows milk when she is one. By a skin test first to see if she develops a rash again. She said to rub some cows milk on an area of her back. So we will see.
Heather just a thought have you changed washing powder? My friends LO got dry skin when she changed washing powder to DAZ, just a thought.0 -

My DD was referred to a dietician and she was excellent, would definitely recommend it. They can give you lots of ideas. I hope your child grows through it as mine did. She was 4 before she was ok with milk (5 with eggs) but is fine now.0 -
the only thing that has changed is her food and milk, but she doesn't have a rash just dry skin on the back of her neck, behind her ears and on her scalp. it's really flakey like cradle cap.
she dribbles milk all over her chin when she drinks and doesn't have a rash anywhere on her face.
i'm convinced now its not the milk.0 -
This happened with my little one; I breastfed until he was nearly two (not my choice but his insistence) but when I introduced cows milk at 12 months in an attempt to wean him he developed eczema. This flared up regularly until I switched him to goats milk and it has made a huge difference.
However, what is your water like? We live in a hard water area and it was only when we went to York at Easter that I noticed what a difference the soft Yorkshire water made, too. No eczema at all (and my dry skin disappeared) whilst on holiday. That's Numberwang!0 -

I don't want to seem to contradict you, but I used to live in York and the water is really hard, we had a dreadful problem with limescale build up etc. (Some parts of Yorks do have soft water) Just wondered if you stayed somewhere where they had a water softener perhaps?0 -
Maybe we did, but my Doctor, who is a Yorkshire lass herself, agreed that the water was softer and that it would have made a difference. That's Numberwang!0

I am so glad I've read this because people's description of a "nettle like" rash is exactly how I would describe my daughter's skin right now. She is 2 months old and has always had quite dry skin. I myself have a mild dairy allergy resulting in itchy throat, eyes and runny nose etc... and limitmy dairy intake to the "essentials" as I call them - e.g. milk in cooking, cheese in small quantities, chocolate for my sanity and everything else like cream etc... only very occasionally and in small amounts. Anyway, I had noticed that her skin got worse when I ate a lot of chocolate or a particularly creamy sauce so I have been extra careful. This past week however, with the run up to Christmas and all the busyness that entails I have been eating more chocolate than usual (just snacking you know!) and coincidently have also had a number of meals with milk in them (white sauce on pasta etc...). Her skin has been getting drier and drier and then about a week ago she developed this rash on her tummy. I ignored it and thought it would go away, but it didn't. Then, last night she had her first ever bottle of formula (SMA Gold) and this morning she is covered head to foot in this rash. I saw the HV and now need to completely cut dairy from my diet and try her on a special formula (if she'll take it) as a back up to see if that clears it up. I am gutted - just before Christmas and I can't eat chocolate, cream or anything! I also have to really think about what I cook now - nightmare with a toddler to think about too! I feel like I'm going to be eating plain pasta for months now. (Incidently I can't have too much tomato either as it makes her constipated & windy) If I could, I would just stop feeding her and give her formula, as it would make life so much easier, but as she can't have normal formula either I can't do that. I really don't know what to do. I had only intended to breastfeed for about 4-5 months as it was but don't know if I'll have to keep going cos she can't have formula. My son is such a good eater and has been having the same meals as us since 7 months old so I've never had to think like this before and I'm feeling a bit out of my depth.0

Washing power is also another big problem for babies & others, I have an allergic reaction to anything other than Persil, it's the only one that doesn't bring me out in a huge rash all over my body. Something else for all you new parents to watch out for.Winnings
