Car insurance, using my NCD for a friend.

Hi all,

Looking for some info....

I take delivery of a company car on 4th Feb, so will be covered on companies insurance which includes personal use.

My current personal car will then be sold, a friend is interested, however he only passed his test in the last 12 months, so insurance for him in his own name requires a mortgage not a loan!!

So my question.... Can I use my insurance to cover him?
Not fronting, he will be named main driver
Car will be kept at his address

Basically looking to use my (redundant) no claims to cover him.

I have done a quote on comparethemarket to create a policy in my name, with him as main driver, car kept at his address which makes the premium 1/5 of doing it in his own name.

Other than risking losing the no claims i've amassed (by him claiming/being claimed against) are there any other reasons (legal or not) that this can't be done?

Sorry for going on, any advice appreciated!

Rob.

    Who will be registered keeper?

Will you use the vehicle at all?

Your NCB will lapse after a couple of years without a policy.

Insurers won't let you insure a car you don't own or are the RK for.

What else would you call it?

It would be perfectly legal if it was declared to the insurance company and they agreed.

If this is a real post, do yourself a favour, sell the car, let the mate worry about his own insurance.

Technically of course you're correct. I suppose fronting is the wrong term but what else would you call using your own no claims history to get a discount for another driver!

    Cheers,

Not a joke post, just trying to cut costs for a friend.
However I want it all to be above board and obviously legal.

Looking at what bryanb & Quentin have said, I can see this will go nowhere regarding RK issues.

As for Spacey, thanks for your intelligent first reply - NOT, however for your 2nd reply that's the way things are heading, less hassle all round.

Neilmcl, as long as the main driver is the main driver, then it's not fronting, I will also on occassion still drive the car.

Thanks all, think it's time for my friend to start hitting the overtime to pay for his own insurance and look at a different car.

    Neilmcl,

What do most parents do when adding their kids to their policies??
