Car insurance, using my NCD for a friend.

Yes they will. My wife gave her car registered in her name to my daughter who had the car for about 5 years with 3 different insurers, insured in her name only. I tried swapping the registered keeper on comparison sites to see if it made any difference but it didn't so she never bothered changing the keeper as it would have added an extra owner. I don't know if it makes any difference where it asks for relationship to policyholder as I obviously put daughter rather than friend.
As long as it's clear who the main driver and registered keeper is so it's quoted accordingly, I don't see a problem. Try it on a comparison site and see.
Was she at the same address though? I believe it can be done within family/at the same address but here this is just 'a friend' and the car will be kept elsewhere. Without them being a relative I really can't see it being allowed. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Or alternatively a comparison site with a glitch between them and the Insurers.0 -
Insurers won't let you insure a car you don't own or are the RK for.
Err..
What exactly is this product then?

So it's clearly not impossible, although if you need it it probably rules out a good part of the insurance marketWe need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
We belong to the Earth0 -

Whether or not it's "allowed" is entirely a matter of policy for the insurance companies.
You can get insurance for just about anything if you're prepared to pay the premium but cover like this isn't normally offered through comparison sites. That doesn't mean that the insurers won't provide it though - in fact, they do through temporary policies. These are issued (at inflated rates) with no consideration of NCD, driving history (beyond fairly major stuff), whether there is other insuance in force, or who the car belongs to. So insurers are willing to consider such cases.
To the OP, from what you've described there should be no problem with what you're suggesting provided the insurers are informed of the situation accurately and agree to insure on that basis. Don't trust information entered on a comparison site for this - you'll need to talk to the insurer (or a broker) to be sure they understand.0 -

Totally agree, I was saying it can be done although in the example I quoted i suspect the fact they were family made it easier. Given it's a daughter, i'd even suggest they were at the same address. I know others on here have certainly done the same thing as husband/wife.
You can always lodge a bond etc insurance doesn't have to be got in the way most of the population do it.
Just as it might be possible to have the no claims reinstated. Some place will accept company car driving records to provide a discount. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

She is at the same address, however, they don't ask for the address of the registered keeper. Whether not declaring different addresses could be seen to be witholding material information, I'm not sure.0
