Bottle feeding only.. do I need breast pads?

Going straight to bottle feeding baby and will not be doing any breast feeding. (medically unable to breast feed at all)........Do I need to buy any breastpads. If so for how long roughly would I need them for.. how much should I buy?

One pack will be fine. Get shops own (Tesco/Asda etc) as they are as good as branded.

And Bras. Your boobs will get bigger for a short while, so for comfort take with you ones that have a bit more stretch in them.

    Best of luck!

Hi,Yes you will still need breast pads, even thought you are bottle feeding you still have milk in you breasts after giving birth and it will still have to come out.
Have you considered trying to express the milk then putting it into a bottle to feed the bab, they say it's good for the baby.
I would have thought a couple of week worth of pads at least,I still have the odd bit of leakage even after 3 years(very tiny though).

 What's that got to do with how many breast pads the OP needs to purchase  She didn't ask for peoples views on whether she should bottle or breast feed, because she can't, and when you can't or don't want too you don't need your nose rubbed in it

she said she cant due to medical reasons though id also like to say to the OP you shouldnt feel that you have to justify your decision. i bottle fed both my strong healthy neither under nor overweight children and i was made to feel i had to 'defend' myself but looking back i wish id had the confidence i have now!!!

    rant over sorry!

anyway you will still need some breast pads as it tends to leak when you move or when the baby cries etc. try not to squeeze any out or let yor OH near them as they will be sore and if you express any the process has to start all over again!

I only breastfed my eldest for 3 days and didn't breastfeed my daughter at all and I didn't get leaking boobs with either. From memory don't you still get a couple of samples in the bounty packs they give you. If you do, you could use them till you know whether you're going to need to buy some or not? Having never used them though, I have no idea how long one lasts for (anyone???).
  • With my first dd, I got through about three boxes of pads and dd2 I got through just the one.

    I didnt bf either.

If you get one box and go from there, as soon as you get down to the last few pairs and you are still leaking then get some more. Thats what I done.

Do you think that the medical reason may have an effect on whether or not you need breast pads?

Your GP/midwife might be able to offer some info.
