  • Does anybody remember that Viz t-shirt from years ago?

    Left School?

    No job?

    No money?

    Then f**k off.

    Have things changed that much.......

That particular T-shirt is still available in a variety of lovely colours :)

  • I am very proud to announce that I am a very recent ex-employee after milking NatWest of their excellent maternity package, then quitting.
I wanted to add something about switch/maestro transactions that I thought was very unfair - it may apply to all banks so other employees will have to post.
Switch transactions are not posted on your account until the last second before midnight, so that you may check your balance during the day and think that you are within credit, but you check the next day, and you went od the day before - £28 charge for the fat cats.
For example - you have a balance of £20 in your account, and you use your switch on a Saturday in New Look for £15. You check on Monday, you still have £20 in your account, and you know on Tuesday, your mum is paying you cash into your account. So you take out £10. Tuesday morning, you check your balance and NewLook came out last thing of the day. You went £5 overdrawan and will be charged.
I always thought it was one of the meanest things a bank could do, and I was caught out by this myself.
  • "former bank cashier says that managers can no longer give discretionary refunds but only 'error refunds' ". I can say in the case of Alliance and Leicester they have to get the ok from HQ even with errors.

To avoid an early settlement fee on a loan, pay all but the last month's direct debit amount off. Overpayments are penalty free, but an early settlement fee applies if paying the loan off in full.

is this true industry wide? im in the prcoess of consolidating my loans and could save a penny here if it applied to places like Egg or the unscrupulous Black Horse...

No problem, ill shut my trap after I just say that I doubt they are just standing around chatting in the back office (we dont just run a counter service....) and secondly, in my branch we do everything we can with limited staff to ensure the queue gets as many staff as possible - even our mortgage advisers walk the queue to sort out queries if they are free.

(Ive always wondered why RBS doesnt have a queue at lunchtimes though.... They just dont get the same walk-ins as us for some reason!)

Straight out of the Nationwide Book of Excuses to give to Customers..fantastic. Perhaps if staff did less chatting about last night conquests in the back office and the Nationwide put more cashiers on then perhaps mortgage "advisers" wouldn't have to walk up and down asking if they can be of any help in the long queues that have now developed in the branches. Perhaps if the fat-cat Nationwide directors didn't award themselves such disgusting wages rises and perks then perhaps more front line staff could be employed.

Don't you think as staff we complain about not having enough cashiers, it's us who get shouted at. We don't take breaks at lunchtime, in city centre branches it's before 12 and after 2. There is usually nobody in the back office, let alone people chatting and depending on what the last transaction was there might well be some paperwork to fax or file which has to be done immediately which means the next customer has to wait. There are so many other regulations set outside the bank which means there is more to some customers than just serving them. You either want quick service or efficient and compliant service. This pressure is why nobody stays too long.

I don't understand how this firm are going to load cash, order cash, balance the ATM, take the deposits out and key them

We have to do all the loading when closed
