Amazon prime BEWARE!

Hello all

Just had a stressful time trying to find £49 missing from my bank today only to find it was amazon prime which I didn't sign up for.

the lady on the phone said it was because i purchased at christmas and it automatically added it on?!?
But they charged me for it 30th Dec for 2012! so I rung and after a while they agreed to refund it but it will be 3 days so I am out of pocket now with only £30 until they do so!:mad:

So beware and watch your accounts!

why beware this is not amazons fault, when you purchase anything from amazon it gives you a choice to join Prime to get free postage, you must of ticked the box for this. so hows this amazons fault.

You DID sign up for it; you signed up for Amazon Prime's FREE TRIAL which THEN required you to cancel within a certain time frame, which you failed to do.

In future, if you sign up for anything purporting to be 'free' and you are asked for your card details (credit or debit) then that should be a warning to you that, should you not abide by their terms and cancel within the specified time, you will be charged.

Me, I have twice signed up for Amazon Prime free trial. Each time I have put a note on the calendar reminding me WHEN to cancel.

This topic has come up time and time again.;)

yes and each time it is always Amazons fault , never the buyer who failed to read what they signed up for.

Still, at least, on this occasion, the OP hasn't 'blasted' Amazon for SCAMMING them.

    Quite a refreshing change!

thats true. Also once again Amazon refund without an issue, so they will be very much used to this, so you would think they would make it harder for users to click this, or email users to inform them the trial is about to end and ££ will be taken from card on this date.

For those that DO buy frequently from Amazon this Prime Membership can be a good deal. My BIL is a member, but then he's an IT geek and likes his 'toys'. And likes them delivered quickly;)

I use Amazon a lot. At Christmas I bought a Kindle Fire and because of this I got a free month's trial for Amazon Prime. I definitely didn't click or sign for it though - it came up automatically. I've ordered several things since then and it's been sent through Prime. It ran out earlier this week and no longer comes up when I go onto Amazon.

I'm off to check my bank online though.

Nope, nothing has been taken from my account.

true but make it harder for those that dont understand whats its for.

I know amazon actually stores cc and dc details so anyone clicking it wound not always be asked to fill in card details.

I personally dont use Amazon enough to warrant the payment and have never tested the trial

Which you would think might alert them to the fact that they should make themselves clearer.

No matter how many times the usual suspects here say it's perfectly clear, the continuing stream of people here who have misunderstood shows that as a matter of actual fact it isn't.

So, why don't Amazon do something to save themselves this bother?

Because they hope people will just continue for a year when they realise they have been charged unexpectedly.

It's a rather shoddy way to behave - especially from Amazon who get so much right and are, in most cases, a beacon of good customer service.

I signed up for a 3 month trial at the end of November and immediately went into my account and switched off auto-renewal for it, which was extremely easy.

Still got over a month left on it and i'm contemplating keeping it for the free Saturday deliveries. Makes things so much easier when everyone in the house works office hours.
