DRO Application Info Please
Hi,
I recently spoke to National Debtline who has said they are taking up to 9 weeks to process new DRO's.
Obviously that's quite a long time and I already have debt collectors, namely doorstep collectors asking for the reference number to stop them coming around.
The application National Debtline sent me should be here soon but when is it you get the ref number, is it when you send the application back or not until the DRO is given?
Thanks

Sometimes creditors will accept a file reference number but if they want the DRO application number, you wont get that until the application has been opened on the DRO system.0

How long did Payplan take from the time you called them to doing the application for the DRO, as National Debtline are saying its going to take about 9 weeks before they even pick up the application after I have sent it to them.0

Prof ligate, sorry for my late reply, I have only just got the email to say someone replied to this post. Do you mean the national debtline file reference number?
Thanks0 -
Hello Jonj1611,
The 9 week peiod is the period of time that it takes for an intemediary to process the application once it has been returned fully completed. We have a large backlog at the moment as this is the busiest time of year for us. We are profusely sorry for the delay, DROs are very much in demand at the moment.
In the meantime you may be able to offer your creditors the National Debtline 'client reference number' that we should have gave you when you called. You can find it within the pack we would have sent you. If you cannot find it please give us a call so that we can let you know what it is.
At the same time you can write to your creditors asking them to hold action for the time being, you can find a sample letter on our website:
http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/debt_advice.php#6
You can also write to the doorstep collectors telling them that would prefer not to make an appointment to have a doorstep collector visit, and that you would prefer to deal with them only in writing. It's worth remembering that a doorstep visitor is NOT a bailiff - they cannot enter the property (unless you invite them in) and they certainly cannot take any of your belongings.
The OFT guidance on debt colelction has a really good section covering doortspoe visiting, it's worth a read:

Should you have any further queries please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best wishes,

Hi David,
Many thanks for responding to this thread, to be honest I wasn't aware your company was on here but I am glad that you are and for the information.
When I said doorstep collectors I was actually referring to Provident. I am not very good talking face to face with people and am suffering severe depression at the moment and this whole thing is getting me down further with the weight of it all which is why I was wondering if anyone was doing it quicker than 9 weeks as I really can't take the stress, its hurting my chest from panic attacks, but you try telling people that and they either don't care or don't believe you.
I do appreciate it's a busy time for you so I completely understand why it's taking so long to process at the moment.
I wouldn't be too bad if I could just stop Provident coming around0 -

Hiand yes I did mean the file reference number.
The Provident collectors will sometimes just refer it over to their Head Office once they know a DRO is being sought. Its worth a try.
Have you tried to see a CAB adviser face to face as that may get things resolved a bit quicker than 9 weeks and you'll get some support?
Try to not worry too much. It is stressful but it will get sorted.0 -
Many thanks Prof Ligate, the local cab is always busy by phone, I will try and get in there this week.
And thanks, it certainly is stressful thats for sure.
All the best0 -

Try Step Change? If you have Experian all ready, someone I know there says it takes approx 1 week to process once ppw received...0 -
Ok many thanks, I will look into that.
Just wanted to say National Debtline were brilliant on the phone, was nice to actually speak to a nice person for a change, but the 9 weeks is definitely going to be a lot longer than I wanted to wait, I have everything ready and need to get this dealt with now as its all piling on top of me in all honesty so I will give them a call.
I did have someone called Payplan contact me last night, are they an ok company?0
