when to put heating on?

18 degrees is plenty warm enough. I am knocking on doors all day meter reading, and its common to see people swanning up to the front door with T shirts and shorts on in the coldest of sub zero days. Their houses are like tropical hothouses. Even the Prime Minister has mentioned about people putting warm pullovers on to keep the costs down, and the carbon footprint down.. what chance has global warming got of ever lowering when the population are as selfish as they are now with 2, 3 and 4 cars in the drive, massive petrol guzzling 4 wheel drives all over, even in the poorer areas
Personally I find 15 degrees quite adequate , the recommended 21 degrees is ridiculous.
As I type this I am sat in a living room with my freind who is quite ill and facing a breast cancer op next week, the temperature of the living room is a mere 13 degrees and she is quite happy, its her choice to have the heating on so low, not mine, shame on you lot who are only happy when you are roasting hot as if its the middle of summer

if i had my way it just use the heated duvet but i cant. its so damp in here and they do nothing to help that if i have no heating at all, i get brown stuff dripping off the ceiling and walls from ex tennent smoking.
its also ok people saying its only £8 a week but thats alot when i only use £46 total in the summer and before anyone says anything,what other bills i have is my own business. dont know how cold it is here at the mo but my hands are bloody froze and i make bedroom warm as i have bad circulation and just cant get off to sleep if im cold or its cold in there. thankyou for the replies but i just asked if earlier in day would be better than later,not a lecture about what and why.

I for one didn't lecture you just asked that's all. I am genuinely puzzled, maybe it's because those of us who are older still find it a luxury to be able to have heating in every room. I am in the heat needed in the room you are active in camp

On my bed I have 3 duvets, 2 sheets 1 blanket, a fleece under blanket and an electric blanket which is built into another fleece blanket and yes I'm lovely and warm but not when my arm pops out of the covers, it is that cold it wakes me up.

Truth of the matter is, if heating were free most of us would have it on, to say you don't understand that is a bit disingenuous.

Crazy world we live in when you need to save for most of the year, by building a credit on your utility bills to be able to have the heating on for a few hours in the evening and maybe a couple in the morning.

Bit of a rant I know but...the average house price in the UK is around £185k the average wage only about £35k, to get a job for £35k is not easy but try and get a house on a £35k wage, not easy.

We need to support each other, not help those at the top carry on ripping us off.

If I wanted to heat my bedroom then I would as we pay £70 per month electric only so could increase that.

My husband could only dream of that kind of money, actually what would we spend it on. We would have really good savings though!

My bed has one duvet and an electric blanket any more and we'd swelter!:cool: So no it isn't disingenuous but genuine surprise.

If people want to use more heating that's up to them, maybe living in N/East Scotland has made us hardy. Mind you I didn't have an electric socket in my bedroom until I was 16! :eek:

i dont have heating in every room only in two.
im 40 so pretty old lol but i could never justify heating in every room

i use about £46 a month in summer which im told considering im in alot and the tv etc is always on is fairly good. sadly im so close to what i can actuall;y spend its why i worry. no ones fault well maybe the ex husbands sadly ive always been a very cold person even before my bypass op.
i dont think wanting heating on in one room for 4hrs and one on for an hr before bed is asking alot though. tbh though dont really want/need a debate on how i spend money or heat the place just wondered if it was better on earlier when id like to be comfy doing stuff.

What a ridiculous attitude.

Some people don't like living in a cold environment, it makes them miserable and lethargic, just as some people don't like living in a warm environment, it's down to personal choice and isn't anything to be ashamed of.

Is it really any of your business, is it harming you, is it taking anything away from you?

Shame on you for believing your way is the only way.
