Cinema Ticket Refund?

Hi
My friend was sold 3 tickets at the cinema last night, instead of 2 that she asked for, as soon as we noticed ( within minutes) she asked the ticket guy for a refund and she was told that she could not have a cash or debit card refund but could have a guest ticket for a free viewing at another time. This was backed up by the Manager.

She has thought about this since and feels that surely as this was their mistake and not hers, then they should have offered her at least, a debit card refund as that is how she paid for it. She rarely goes to the cinema as she only goes to take her disabled brother who only likes to go occasionally( she is his carer )

Can anyone tell me if the cinema was correct in their handling of the situation please?
Thank you

If it was their mistake then they should correct this, but shurly you would have know the price per seat, so when he gave you the price and then asked you to verify the amount (chip and pin) before entering your passcode you should have know their was a mistake.

you could contact the chains head office ( i assumes it a chain muliplex) with a polite email at first explaining this

    Don't call me Shirley. :D

As suggested, I'd agree that contacting whatever head office or customer service department this cinema operates under seems to be the best course of action.

I wonder why the staff/management would be so unhelpful when they're the ones who have made the mistake.

Just have to chalk it up to bad customer service I suppose. :)

Can't see why they wouldn't refund you for their mistake.

    Contact their head office.

Except that the OP mentions that the manager was also involved and maintained that no refund could be given.

Ultimately the manager should have authorised a refund given that a member of his/her staff made the mistake. Unfortunately you get good and bad in every profession. :)

When railbuff said "trainee student who does not want the job", I kind of assumed they were talking about the manager.

Seriously, in my experience, "manager" in cinema-speak is a synonym for "oldest looking" and not much else.
