Greedy Sky admits: We crippled broadband with TOO MANY users

Options
Sky has confessed it has overloaded its broadband service by putting far too many Brits onto its network. The media giant told The Register that it has run out of capacity in certain corners of the UK, which has knackered its users' internet connectivity at peak times.
Subscribers to Sky Broadband Unlimited in Doncaster, North Wales and Bristol have complained of connections grinding to a halt especially in the past three months. This is despite the company promising them "we'll never slow your Unlimited broadband down, even at peak times".

thats the worst thing when a provider offers free broadband. you may say its not free, but it is free as long as you take out their telephone/TV packages. Talk Talk had the same issues until the started charging for the BB services.

No more greedy that Virgin Media where these sorts of issues have been going on for ages.
  • My Sky broadband is a constant source of annoyance. Post 9pm (when I get home) it has problems loading simple youtube videos.

if you want BB better off paying for this from a separate source than than getting it free from TV/telephone provider as part of a packages.

this is another reason to not accept their free BB, because its part of the package does not say you have to take the BB. with these free BB is everyone and their grandmother has it so overloads their system making many issues
  • Always been the problem with free broadband and true unlimited broadband. When I was on O2 my speeds at peak times maxed at 0.15 mbps due to people hammering the unlimited service with 400GB+ a month downloads!!

At the time my exchange hadn't been unbundled and so I was on the Access package. The line speed was estimated at 6-7 mbps and the neighbours on other providers had around that speed. O2 Access at the time was an unlimited package and some people hammered it mercilessly. They eventually got turfed off and O2 imposed a download limit and my speeds picked up to around 6 mbps. Those on O2 packages available on unbundled exchanges weren't affected by the issues (so granted "always" wasn't the right word, but it's a risk)
