Mobile phone recycling -Cex

Hi,

I have recently recycled my iphone 4 with an online company called Cex, well I have tried to!!! I sent the phone off at beginning of Januray and have not received my money. I have tried to email but had no response. There is no phone number to contact them on, so basically i'm an iphone down and £147 short. I have got proof of purchase and have tracked the parcel and they did sign for it.

Has anyone had any experience of this company with regards selling phones to them? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have actually contacted the citizens advice now to report them to trading standards.:(

Without searching old posts, I thought the consensus was that using CEX in store was OK, but online, not so much. I can't remember ever seeing good comments about trading in to CEX online, the common complaint also seemed to be they quote one price and drop it lower when they eventually do pay out.

OP, when you track your parcel, when did it arrive at CEX?

And perhaps check RM as to who signed for it, at least then you have a name to start your complaint with, have you written to CEX to complain yet?

How so? You take the item in store and they give you a price and if its agreeable they pay you and you leave.

On line, from reports I've read in the past, they give a price, you then send the phone away, you then wait a week or more and they then email and say you didn't declare a hairline scratch and they knock the quoted price down 25%-35% and even if you agree they mess about another week before paying.

Pretty sure I would prefer to sort it face to face at the shop counter and walk away if they start messing about with the quoted price.

Yeah can't fault them in store, much quicker than sending you phone away.
  • Yes I have recently had a problem buying a phone in store, which I've just written a thread on. I am not very happy with them at all. I think they are an awful company and feel like I've been totally ripped off by them.

You are confusing the issue and probably need to have your own thread, the OP here is complaining about selling to CEX, not buying from CEX and then having a problem with the handset bought.

On the flip side, I've sold a few phones to them online.

They've dropped the price on a few but not all but listed the reasons why and it was a fair assessment in my opinion.

Only problem I find with them is that it does take ages to get paid, and I do normally end up chasing them for it. But I do always get it, normally within a month of sending the phone.

I do have my own thread as I pointed out. I know that the person was having problems selling, I was merely saying that I also have a problem buying, yes I understand this is different but we are talking about the same company. :)
