I don't see auto update as a feature, if it's not broke then don't fix it. Not every update is necessary or desirable and I can choose if when and what I wish to update. I want my device to use data when I require the information it is delivering, I don't see why some people are balking about data useage when the user simply could set the device for their own usage, as you mention it's about being conscious.
I just highlighted your assumption that a gig of data being ample, isn't the case for lots of people - and will be increasingly the case as data consumption increases. The Ovivo deal is great for low users, the Giffgaff deal is still an excellent one for many medium to high users.
Once you factor in the payback with Giffgaff too, then it's still a pretty good offering - it's perfectly possible to get 250+ mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data for nothing. Hardly expensive.
Your point about Virgin is well worth making, just try not to make a value judgement about others requirements based on your own.0 -

You mean like you just have?
The giff gaff deal is nothing spectacular and would not be mentioned at all if it were not for the £5 introduction fee, the virgin big talk at unlimited data and 300 text for £10 top more than likely surpasses any goody bag, as the £10 credit remains, and they didn't have to even give me £5 to post that0 -
DUTR - I don't think I did, no.
You don't need to refer anyone to Giffgaff to benefit from free or subsidised mobile phone use. I have Giffgaff as a second sim and I can't use the credit faster than they keep topping it up for me. I would hardly call that expensive, and certainly for me a much better option than Virgin or Ovivo, or anyone else that I'm aware of.0 -

Well from where I'm sitting you did, just like from where you are sitting I did, so that is a mute point of debate,
Tariffs are in a variety of forms to suit the purchaser and their usage.
Not sure why GG is only your 2nd sim if it represents unbeatable value, but it's your monies and I can't spend that for you .0 -

Well, you are an argumentative so and so at times......
I've not stated that Giffgaff do represent 'unbeatable' value.....I just pointed out that it's pretty good for many. Equally I acknowledge that both Ovivo and Virgin are good value for many too. That's called being balanced.
I actually agree with you on the majority of what you initially posted, the only thing I was pointing out is the fact that there are plenty of people who need more than 1gb of data in their allowance, which would lead them to choosing a tariff other than the one you mentioned. That's all. There are other reasons in addition to this that may make Giffgaff a better option for some, and there are others who would be better off with maybe Virgin, Ovivo or whoever.

Horses for courses I agree, yes, my logic in the answer on data usage, related to when the FUP was introduced, so whilst a great many will require over 1gb, the majority need not worry over it, the last time I checked my O2 3g had a greater upload/download speed than my btinternet.
So when someone asks 'best tariff' they really need to put their usage , my tariff costs me £21 so at a quick glance the Virgin looks like it would save me £9, but 23 mms later and O2 would be cheaper.
I'm sure GG/Ovivo does not have as many subscribers as any of the main networks , so the headline price is only part of the picture.
AIUI you cannot tether on the standard GG (which I agree not everybody does need to do) but like you portrayed and we both agree, one hat does not fit all.
I still stand by take away the referal bonus with GG and the tariff is no more attractive than any other offerings as they are all worth considering to suit the users requirements.0 -

Like I said before it's not the referral bonus that makes it more attractive to many, it's payback as a whole incorporating helping out on the Giffgaff forum. I'm a very occasional poster on their and yet it more than covers my monthly usage. If you're inclined to, you can also send out sims and receive payment for doing so. It's not something I bother with.
In terms of tethering on Giffgaff, I understand you can tether on the 1gb option, but cannot on the unlimited data option.0 -

heh heh but come on Paul 1gb is not enough for many users, I was chastised earlier in the thread for suggested 1gb is plenty enough
With forums like this and elsehwere, there is always help for any network or handset :cool:0 -
I wasn't judging it, merely stating the facts. Considering I use 10gb+ per month and much of it tethered, then Giffgaff is not enough for me.0
